Hi,

I am new to the forum, have an 02 Black X50.

Any problems changing to the 997 19" factory turbo wheels. Lots of take offs on the market. Bridgestones, Pirellis and PS2 ($$). Any thoughts? My car has 18" Sport Techno wheels with worn out tires...wheels too chunky for me.

PS2's are the best of the lot. A lot of guys, including me, have had problems with Pirellis. 18"s are better for the track, less weight.

Previous cars, eg- 993C4S (should have kept it-but love the turbo), and others have all been disappointing with Pirelli, loud with bad wear. I am more concerned with wheel fit.

There was a thread about the wheels about 2 or 3 weeks ago. Do a search. IIRC, you have to use spacers, but they will work. Check thread for details.

The 997TT wheels will work with spacers however the take off 997TT rear tires won't, they are the wrong profile. I find the PS2's pretty average in the wet, I'm looking to change next time.

i put 08 wheels and tires without spacers on my 04 turbo and it fits no problems..

They'll fit OK, but your centre diff is going to get screwed fast. You just maintain the original 996TT rolling circumference ratio front/rear. A 977TT rear tire is not correct, from memory they run a 305/30/19 and you need a 305/25/19 if your going to run a 997TT front tyre. This subject has been covered a number of times on 6 speed.

Sorry, I'm a newbie to the forums, but not to Porsches. What is "6 speed", another forum? I don't mean to ask questions that have been asked before, but the advice is all over the map. Need spacers front and rear, need rear spacer only, have to run 315/25-19 rears, etc, etc.

I don't know who to believe. Maybe I'll stick to the ugly 18" sport techno wheels

Wheel Enhancement says front and rear spacers and can't use 997 OEM rear tires, Ernie's alloys says 997 wheels and tires work fine with 6mm rear spacers.

Wheel Enhancement is correct, spacers and change of rear tire. Personally I think the 997TT wheels are ugly, they are certainly heavy, I'd stick with whatever you have now, but each to their own.

i have 305 30 19 in the rear, do i need to change to 315 25 19? that little bit makes that much difference? thanks

It's not the width of the tire that will be causing stress on your centre diff, it's the change in the circumference differential. Every tire manufacturer publishes the circumference of each tire (the do vary between brands), you need to make sure that your sure that you maintain the original tire circumference ratio front to rear. If you are running 977TT tires on a 996TT you have a problem that needs addressing. Here's a link to a guy who screwed his diff doing exactly what you are doing.

To summarize - wheels yes (with rear spacers) Tires no. I am speaking from personal experience. You need 315 25 19 on the rear.

Maybe,

everything matters (front and rear). Post the complete tire spec, front and rear.
(brand, model, and size designation). The relative diameters are what matters.
Then go to www.tirerack.com, and look at the specific spec sheet for these
tires to see the actual diameter. I want my tire diameters to be equal to within
a few tenths of an inch, and if any difference, I much prefer the fronts to be
the taller.
For this viscous system, though, the closeness is the crucial part. Otherwise it's
like letting your clutch slip all the time. Quick burnout guaranteed.

how about changing the fronts to 225 40 19 instead of the stock 235 35 19 and keeping the 305 30 19 in the rear.. will that work..
