Default OK - So I'll Probably Get Flamed for Asking This - But Here Goes...

I'm currently an Audi S4 owner - but have always wanted either a 2002-2004 996 Turbo or a 996 C4S. In my search for either of these vehicles it dawned on me that for about the same price I can get a 2007 Audi RS4 which has:

- 420hp
- AWD
- Still under factory warranty
- probably cheaper to maintain/repair
- cheaper to insure

Please talk me into the 996 - PLEASE!

I had an S4 as a second car to my Turbo for three years. So I know a bit about the S4. I attended an Audi Experience track day and sampled both the RS4 (and the R8) at Autobahn CC where I had also run my Turbo. There is simply no comparison between the performance of the two. One is a nice, but heavy, sport sedan. The other (my Turbo) is an everyday supercar. I will also go on record as saying the only thing the R8 had over my Turbo was the E-Tronic transmissions that made heavy trailbraking and downshifting child's play. If they had offered me the R8 as a straight trade for my Turbo, I would have happily declined. As for the RS4, I wasn't that much impressed in its ability over the S4 or the S5 that I drove that day as well.

Cheers,

These are 2 completely different cars. You need to determine which one better suits your purpose. If it's about money, get the Audi. If it's about performance and driving experience get the Turbo.

Rem,
Car decisions are emotional as much as logical. I'd guess a good driver could hustle an RS4 around a track pretty well, so data may not be a determinative factor.
My personal experience (5 Porsches, 3 Audi's) is that I do find that Audi's are more expensive to maintain. As they age, it is easy to have a minor repair cost one fourth the value of the car.
The driving experience will be different. To the plus for Audi, it will be less wind sensitive on the highway, and will be more comfortable for a long cruise. The Porsche will feel more intimate and of course, has been timeless in style. AS

Never understood the sedan thing, but that's just me. Do you need it for your family?

If you want a super sedan for the back seats, I'd go for the M3 sedan over the RS4 unless you absolutely need AWD. If you want supercar, go for the 996TT because it's superior in perfomance in every category.

RS4 is a nice family sedan (sleeper).
TT in either stock or X50 form is a car that can be taken to supercar limits with just a few mods. Or amazing and reliable if left alone.
I think maintenance $ will be similar.
Ixnay on the C4S, go TT.

FWIW August 2006 Road and Track did a compare of RS4 and C4S.
See if you can find one. Then extrapolate TT for C4S

If I needed a sedan and not AWD, I'd sure go with an E55 before an RS4. You can pick up a nice 05 E55 Sedan for low 30's. 469HP and underrated by MB.

My DD is an E55 wagon. STILL quicker off the line than my TT.

preface, i am an audi hater.

audi is not a porsche. having had S6 and S6, i would much rather drive a 914 then any audi.
yes, i HATE audi with a vengeance.
POS cars.

if you just want a fast car, buy a Z06, it's much faster than porsch or any audi.

Haha. When I was trying to decide on getting a ZO6 or 996TT I'd always see some overweight 60yo dude in the ZO6. Irrelevant to the vehicle but I gotta admit it influenced my decision
