I've been driving my car for a few months now, and the only thing I don't like about it is the short shifter. The 1st to 2nd shift is notchy, and takes a bit more effort than I think it should.

Is it possible to put a 997TT shifter (which I've heard is buttery smooth) into my 996 TTS?

I have the same issue with my TT with a short shifter, I am planning on getting a 997 GT3 Shifter. It is supposed to be a lot smoother and have shorter travel than the TT unit..

I put the 997 shifter{same as GT3} in my car and love it. Smooth, precise, and not notchy. Also shorter throw than the stock 996TT shifter.

The stock 997tt shifter is about 10% shorter than a std 997 shifter, I believe the gt3 and tt use the same one. I have the oem tt ssk, it is short, precise and buttery smooth, it's 20% shorter than the std 997 shifter.

997 TT/GT3 shifter seems like the way to go. Any vendors out there wanna hook us up with a group buy?

glad this post came up because i want to put a ssk in mine as well. had a b&m on my previous c4s and really did not like how it felt. would a 997tt or gt3 shifter fit the 996tt and if it does what are we looking at, the entire shifter assembly or just the shifter it self? chris if i understand your post, are you saying that the stock 7tt shifter has shorter throws and a standard 997 shifter? are you also saying that there is an oem ssk for the 97tt which is different from stock with even shorter shifts? will appreciate the clarification.

The 997 shifter fits the 996TT. It comes as a module that just swaps out. Sunset Porsche had the best price at a little over a hundred bucks. Think I paid about $159 from Suncoast.

Manny, as far as I know the stock 997tt/gt3 shifter is shorter than the stock 997 shifter, but the ssk is shorter yet. I believe there is only one 997 oem ssk available. Get the oem.

Personally I don't get the love folks have for the SSK. I've got one on mine and the lack of leverage seems to make shifting with the SSK more difficult than it needs to be.

FWIW I just put a Carnewal ball shifter on mine and I was able to raise the height of the **** higher than stock and it feels much easier to shift. The ball shift **** also feels much better than the stock TT shifter.

Yea, I was looking for a new shift **** but the one I like is $750. Can't swallow that personally.

Guys - The shift kit for the 997 is one of the hottest selling mods and at prices that are less than $200 it has been one of the best mods I have done. Smooth, short, precise. No need for a group buy - go to suncoast porsche.

I have the B&M shifter (with the EVO ShiftLink), and in warm weather...or once warmed up in cold weather...it shifts beautifully. It's as close to "rifle bolt" as you can come with a cable system.

I think in many cases the issues people have with the B&M shifter are caused by not having precise cable adjustments.

The B&M shifter, and the Porsche SSK for the 996 Turbo, are both made by B&M, and the two shifters are exactly the same.

well guys i purchsed the oem 997 ssk from suncoast. price $359.00 including shipping. was surprised how straight forward the installation went...approximately one hour. as a matter of fact it takes longer to remove and reinstall the center console than swapping the shifter assembly. the throws are considerably shorter than the standard and seams to be shifting with no problems. have not had an opportunity to really drive the car so i can not make any accurate assertions as to the smoothness of the shifting, but will report later as i get more driving time. so far though seems to be a nice upgrade.
