Have to agree with Dock on the switch thing. The way to go is to try to replace some of the worn 996 bits with some CF parts and alcantara from the 996GT3RS and keep the seats conditioned...

Tom, I'm unfortunately starting to catch up. I believe it has more to do with the abuse we put on our cars than others may.
I agree that it's worth doing it with this car, if you can afford to keep up with the costs to maintain.
Tom your car is probably the most well sorted/developed at this point, of any of the 996TTs that we see regularly tracked here and on speeds!

I ran the Glen back in 2007. It's a wonderful place and I want to go back... It's also one of the most unforgiving tracks I've been to. Lack of run-off makes you hold back more than at other tracks I frequent!

I don't know why everyone is so in love with the 997 interior. The 996 with a few mods looks great. The glove box on the 997 looks dated.
I love my 996tt (wish it was lighter though).

How much lighter do you wish the car was? One of the things drawing me in to the 996TT is that it's full of great weight loss opportunities. Granted, some of those really cost a lot of money to perform properly, but it's quite impressive to me how much weight loss is possible with the 996TT. Have you already pursued some weight reduction mods and simply feel it's not enough for you? Please elaborate.

I'd argue here that there is a fine line and a balance to weight reduction on these cars. If you get to light in the weight department, there is a penalty in niose and street-drive-ability. Ask me how I know...

Hey Mike,
Can you share your experiences with regard to weight reduction on the 996TT? I'd love to hear from others what is acceptable for street use and what might be "crossing the line", as I experienced the same types of issues when lightening Toyota Supras. Thanks!

What I've personally noticed is that the more I lightened my car and bolted on more rigid parts, the more buzzy the car has become. My car tripped the scales at 3364# and that was with the GT3RS seats, DaSport rollbar, rear wiper delete, GT2 Rear deck lid (no hydraulics) no spare/toolkit, 350MM brake rotors, LWFW Clutch kit, GT3 front Caliper/pad upgrade, PSS9 Coilovers, and the Speedtech DGI 70MM exhaust system, which is about half the weight of the OEM system.
I have softened the suspension up and removed the seats/rollbar, and the car is a bit quieter, although it is still to loud for trips. Adding the heavier seats didn't seem to slow the car down, and I think when you add the weight of the GT3RS seats/mounts/siders/antisub bar/extenguisher mount/ harness hardware and the DaSport bar, you're weight difference of the OEM heated seats isn't as big a margain as I'd have thought.
Going with a lightweight flywheel adds a LOT of noise when the car is idling in Neutral. The noise turns heads everywhere and the car sounds like it's coming appart.
Obviously the harder you drive the car with it in stiff "track" settings, the more vibrations you will pick up and the more things will loosen up. I had my turbo and exhaust mount studs loosen on me several times, and I had to start going thru a ritual doing track prep that including making sure every bolt on the undercarriage I could reach got a wrench put on it to confirm it was tight.
I'm sure not everyone goes thru this, but this is what I found thru my 2 years tracking my car. Now I'm tring to quiet the exhaust down a bit to live with on the street, and trying to sort out a clutch pedal that is inconsistant, to say the least...
