Default Broken trans mount

I have two broken the rubber trans mounts and was wondering if anyone has a recommended upgrade? The shop I use has offered to make solid mounts out of Derilin for me. I'm just not sure if this will then require me to switch the motor mounts as well?

Also what have people been paying to get them replaced?

I had the same thing happen, and my mech made a Delrin replacement to try. I only had to start the car to realize I didn't want this. Huge amount of vibration, so I had him install a new stock transmission mount. I can't say how much this was because I also had what I remember being called the drive shaft carrier being replaced. All totaled it was $785 in parts and ten hours labor.

I recently installed the newer 997TT tranny mount and it was a noticable difference. The mount can be had thru pelicanparts and is $246.35!

It is, but that mount, with its upgrades made a HUGE difference and transfers more vibration into the interior of the car... I would never want to go with a stiffer mount on a street car.

Just had mine replaced 2 weeks ago. I compared the old to the new and while they look similar, there are differences. I'm assuming the new one has been upgraded as it has 997 in the part #.

$268.88 installed
Part #99737503303

Is there a DIY on how to change the mount ?
I suspect mine might be on the way out as I feel a slight thud as I load / unload the tranny.

Thanks Tim

Default Ha !

That would explain why I couldn't find it on the 'other forum'.

Thanks for the tip.

does thes mounts make a clunk noise when loading up the tranny,, if i sit in 1st gear doing 5 mph and gentally tap my foot on the gas to make the car gerk i get a clunking sound, it does sound like it's near me at the front. I thought it could be a worn drive shaft joint or bush but nothing was found by Porsche when they looked at it.. could some one tell me if this is the problem the trans mounts..

and the link the DIY would be great..

thanks for your help.

That clunk is probably the center section mount for your driveshaft up front. It has some play in it, and I can make mine do the same... Thought I had a driveshaft going bad, and it turned out not to be the case... Just play in that mount at the center...

The owners of this site frown on posting links to competitor sites, but if you go to renntrack and go to the 996tt section, you'll see all the DIYs I've written over the last three years.

Mike, your a star, I was reading about how you got banned from the onother forum..(not the one mentioned above though) sad to see people being like that.. I'll check out the site and try and find your links.. I was worried about that clunking sound and it does come from the front. I was thinking my 4WD system might be on it's way out but without hanging underneath the car while driving I would have never had found this.. big thanks..

While i'm on the subject of clunks.. when I go over rough roads like Edinburgh cobbles I get a rattling sound coming from the front. It's not drop links as they have been replaced and it's not track rod ends as they too have been replaced.. It seams to be something in the brakes as when I drive over cobbles I get the noise, if i apply a little brake while still driving on them the noise goes away.. could this be something as simple as the pads moving? it gets worse when the car is hot or at least untill the brakes are hot..

any help on this little problem would be great..

If anyone is in need of solid Delrin mounts, and would like me to make up a batch, let me know.

I would certainly only recommend this for racing applications, as it does increase the noise and vibrations inside.

Happy to help,
