Default Starter problem?

Hi,
I have had few episodes of starter skipping and not engaging the engine...I hear a fast motor spinning sound as I turn the key with no action from the engine.

I called the dealer and the possible explanation was that the starter may not be engaging the flywheel.

Does it look like that I need a new starter? could it be the ignition switch as discussed before in the forum?
TIA,
Sam

I'm going to with Kevin on your original post regarding that noise you heard upon start after an oil change.
It sounds like your have a defective starter (bendix).

You should get this fixed soon. A failed bendix can cause the starter pinion to chew up the teeth on the flywheel. I'd hate to see you need a new flywheel in addition to a starter because you neglected this problem until later.

Cheers,

Thanks ltc and pardon me for not understanding the term Bendix the first time (i even looked it up in the dictionary...my face is turning red). I just want to make sure before driving to all the way to RI ... assume it's not covered under CPO warranty...oh well.

Cheers,
Thanks Fred, the car is parked until going to the dealer, the flywheel and clutch were replaced only 3 months ago, so I will be very careful.

PCNA has announced that the CPO program is being expanded to include many more items than before.
Check with the dealer for additional details.

Does that retroactively change all CPOs??? Or only cars CPOd after the expanded CPO was announced in Aug 2008?

Adam,

I have talked to local Porsche dealer 2 days ago, he says new one applies to after August only. Prior to that, the old CPO is taking placed.

PCNA would never admit to that, trust me. Spun a totally different way.

Glad to hear the starter is covered. Simple fix.
