Default About to pull trigger - any advice?

After searching for months and a kicking a whole bunch of tires, I've come to terms on a car at a local dealer.

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...r_id=249003952

The spoiler rams are leaking hydraulic fluid and they will fix that before I do my PPI. They claim that one of their mechanics is Porsche certified and will replace the leaking seals.

There are a few small but noticable scratches in the leather on top of the dash - they will have their interior experts look at that today.

A taillamp assembly is cracked and they will replace that.

Once they confirm the repairs I will have the PPI done at a respected independent in the Phoenix area.

I pulled the experian report and there are two things of note, 1) the car was registered in Tuscaloosa, AL which was at one point a FEMA designated storm area; and about a year or two after that 2) the car was sold by Porsche as a CPO which just ran out a month ago.

It'll take a few days for the dealer to do the repairs and I hope to schedule the PPI for early next week. Is there anything else that I should check before then?

Thanks!

Ed

Wow, that is an unbelievable price...with 1000 miles....I would check this thing out thoroughly. How much do you trust the dealer?

The "typical" fix for this (per Porsche) is to replace the entire unit...pump, hydraulics, rams, not fix the seals. They will of course need to be bled as well.

Default Whoops! Wrong autotrader ad!

Sorry! This is the one:

The other one was clearly a scam.

Not an inexpensive part, should their repair not work out. I would have preferred a new unit be installed (or the price reduced accordingly). What type of warranty are they going to offer you on the repair/car?

Has a PPI been done? ECU readout?

I was planning on doing the PPI after the repairs are done so that they can check them as well.

I'm with WROSS on this...the usual fix is the replacement of the rams for around $1400 not putting in a couple seals....but if the car checks out on a good PPI...that's a great deal.

I find it a bit disconcerting to see these cars sellng for up to 1/3rd or more of their original sticker....but if it doesn't have anything major wrong...you've got a great car for a good price. You might ask them to freshen up the fluids...at least a recent oil/filter change and brake flush. You are coming up on your 30K service...so you should read up on what's included in that...it includes tranny and differential fluid changeout, spark plugs.... among a number of other things. Perhaps you can negotiate a 30K service in that deal. Most dealerships charge between $1000-1800 for the 30K service.

Or negotiate that amount out of the deal and do the work yourself over a weekend. None of the 30K is hard work, but it is very time consuming.

I just did the 30K with Loren's help (RennTech)...plugs, Delvac 75W-90 tranny fluid in the transmission and front differential, wiperblades, oil/filter change, air filter, ran the DME on Loren's PIWIS...all ok, removed front bumper and cleaned radiators/condenser....and the rest is pretty much (look at the printout of the 30K service)....check belts, check fluid levels, Check radiator and oil hoses and connections....check this, check that etc etc. I think the whole cost of parts came to around $250....the plugs were the most difficult part of the deal. If you go to the dealership....they'll charge anywhere from $1K on up. Although not part of the 30K, I also replaced the rear struts when one failed.

I just back from a long weekend - thanks for all of the advice.

Some new data - the dealer called to say that they have discovered evidence of prior bodywork under the car by the "air intakes". I'm going there today to take a look myself before determining if I should continue the process and invest in the PPI. As for the rams, they are waiting for an "upgraded part" in order to do the repair and I ask them about it today as well.

I called the service manager at the local porsche dealer and while he didn't want to give me any details about the car due to "privacy issues" he did say that at one point the car was at his shop a few years ago for the CPO inspection and they decided NOT to CPO the car. He didn't have the records on why they rejected it but that doesn't jive with the experian records that indicate the car was CPO'ed.

They said that when they put the car on the lift, the backs of the left and right intakes are painted different colors. They'll put the car up tomorrow for me to see for myself. I try and take a photo or two to post here.

Too many stories, keep looking. There is only one reason you'd put salvage yard air intakes on a tt..prev wreck(?catastrophic flood damage).
