Default Oil change parts?

I'm getting ready to do my first oil change on my 996TT. I've been reading some of the threads & technical articles, but am a little confused on what exactly I'll need to be replacing other than the filter & oil. The tech article below, lists several o-rings & sealing rings, but the part numbers are coming up as special order from Pelican parts.
http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=7075

Do I really need to replace all of these parts? Are there newer part numbers or another place beside Pelican where I can get these?

Thanks.
Dave

The easiest and surest way to do this is give Jeff Clark an email at Sunset (JeffClark@sunsetimports.com) and tell him you're going to do an oil change in your (year?) 996TT and that you want the necessary filter, gaskets etc. He'll make up a package and send it to you in two days at probably one of the more competitive prices around. There's not a lot you need for an oil change. Buy your oil from WalMart...the Mobil 0-40 runs about $5.40 or so a quart...which is one of the better prices around. OR....you can take it to the Porsche dealership and pay $9 a quart plus labor for a $150 oil change.

RennTech is always right on point with regard to what's needed...part numbers, exploded diagrams etc. Loren has all the Porsche PET diagrams for just about any of the water cooled Porsches....and some of the air cooled too.

+1 on the above suggestion to call sunset imports. I did my first oil change about 6 months ago and called them up. They sent me exactly what I needed.

+1 - so far all oil changes in the 996TT have been done by the dealer. But I have done the above for the 964.

It is the easiest oil change of any P car I have ever owned. Make sure when you remove the oil tank drain plug that you use 2 wrenches, 1 for the plug and 1 wrench on the oil tank flange. This will ensure that you do not damage the oi tank. Be ready as well, the oil tank drains fast and dumps its oil with a heavy stream!!!

Thanks everybody. I called sunset today and a package is on its way. Sounds like it should be a pretty easy change.

Care to share what is in the kit? I just got the filter with the large O-ring and the drain plug washers. I hope that is all I needed.

Guys, the oil change kit consists of:

One filter, with two black rubber orings.. One is the large oring that fits around the filter cap., the other goes around the center post of the element (this is optional) but should be replaced every 2 years.

We also have one aluminum crush washer washer that goes to the drain plug on the drivers side of the engine case.

Then we have a copper oring that goes to the large sump tank drain plug.

As a option you can be supplied and order the aluminum crush orings for the turbocharger sump tank drain plugs.

Not sure where you would snake that thing down to. I suppose you could suck all the oil out of the tank via the oil pour spout. But how would you get the oil out of the bottom of the block?

Looks like a cool device but impractical for this application.

During a conventional oil change on the TT is the sump or the block drained? Does the oil filler tube fill the sump, block or both?

Both are drained at seperate drain plugs. To my knowledge the oil fill tube goes to the tank.
