996TT average engine/turbo life

I'm in the market for a 996TT and just curious what to expect in terms of typical engine and/or turbo life? Assuming a good maintenance schedule and no abuse, what kind of miles are people getting out of these before needing major work on the engine/turbos? Thanks.

You might want to check the threads initiated by Pierre, on the east side of the pond. I believe he went over 150,000 miles, including lots of Ring time, and much vigorous highway driving.
Porsche rates the life of the car as 250,000 miles, and I think that is reasonable. One of the Canadian posters also has gone far (over 100,000 miles) with repairs largely confined to radiator injury.
Most guys who don't drag race the cars (on street or strip) and don't have extreme mod packages alos haven't replaced the clutch. Previously, 911 series cars required clutch replacement at 40,000 miles. Mnay have gone much further.
Most haven't needed to replace turbos either
I don't think longevity is a decision factor.
Good luck AS

I let my car run for 1-2 minutes before shutting it off (one if driven without boost for 10 minutes....2 if any boost) and that is it.
I think it will last a long, long time. 150-250k at least. These are seriously overbuilt cars on all levels (except the radio...but I replaced that with something much, much better).

t2....man you put everything in perspective. my 03 just hit 40k and i thought it was alot especially compared to some older cars out there which have not even reached the 20's yet. just recently a guy here purchased an 01 with only 3k miles on it...glad to know the potential of these cars..take care.

Manny,
Thanks - here one to put things into perspective. Just about a week ago I filled the car up with gas and it had a tough time starting - like two good cranks with no fire and I am like WTF must be some bad gas or something - finally on the third try it fires up and has a terrible terrible idle. Give it some gas and after a minute the idle smooths out. I talked with the lead mechanic at my dealership Tuesday am - it threw about 8 codes - he was not sure what it was at the time but said it could be one of three things but a carbon canister was suspect. As it turns out, there is a carbon canister that's used as part of the gas tank vent system which ties into other systems in the rear of the car - the carbon can, which I suspected Tuesday has a shelf life if it's absorbing gas fumes is actually spent and needs to be replaced. So when you round the bend of 175,000 miles expect the carbon can on the fuel tank to need replacement. I always wonder if the guys at the factory keep track of this stuff......Oh yeah and I am getting my second slave cylinder on the clutch replaced at the same time!! T2

Wow. This is great info. I think T2 gets the prize on longevity! I was impressed with 175K on the engine & tranny. But on the turbos and original clutch - thats just amazing. Looks like I'll be keeping mine for a long time! :-)

My One Lap 2001 996tt has 55k on it. It's over 500 whp and has been at that power level since 10k miles. The engine has never been apart. My repair shop just completed a compression test and a leakdown test on the engine, and all of the numbers were within spec and 2%. This car has complete 6 Cannonball One Lap of America races which consist of 17 to 19 timed track events, an average of 4700 street miles, all in 8 consecutive days. That being said, we replace the clutch everyother year, freshen up the transmission and LSD everyother year, and normally rebuild the suspension every year, wheel bearings every two years, etc etc etc.

I have 80,000 miles. 5,000 stock / 45,000 stage 2 / 15,000 stage 4 - 600HP / 15,000 Protomotive 700. Over 40 1/4 mile passes and the engine is still perfectly strong, no sign of any problems. The OEM clutch started slipping at 65,000 miles, after one season at 600HP, if I had stayed at 500HP, I think it would still be fine. I have taken care of this car and after almost 6 years and 80,000 miles it still drives and looks like new.
