My neighbors think I'm nuts
One time I fell asleep and left the car out and it rained...so I washed it in the rain and found that the rain water left it brighter and no spots....so now, every time it rains, I back the car out, wash it with water from the water softener, and let the rain do the finish wash. I pull it into the garage and dry it...and I'll swear, it gives it the best wash I've been able to give it.....but the neighbors think I'm nuts as they drive by and see me washing all the cars in the rain. After all, it is distilled water isn't it?
Yeah, yeah I know....I can never sell it with the ad..."never been in the rain"

Shant: Realistically.....and I'm being serious...why wouldn't you wash it in the rain? Unless you're using the dry wash technique...you're going to get it wet....so the rain water is a lot cleaner than the water from the hose...and it doesn't spot. What's the difference between washing your truck or washing your 996TT? I dont' leave it out there...just wash it. I was truly amazed at the difference in how the car looked after the wash using rain water.

sfbanchs: I wear this thing we call a rain suit.....have you heard of them? You can see a picture of them at Orvis.com....also at Big 5 Sporting Goods. They are actually quite clever....

i dont know that the rain water makes the car brighter. but i do wash my cars in the rain. when it's time for my quality time with my cars, i dont care if it's 3am, 110 deg or pouring rain. i got to do what i got to do. after the wash/soap/rinse, i pull the car inside and dry it off then wax.
yes, my neighbors do certify me as a nut. i am washing some car every saturday and sunday morning around 6am-10am.

The rain is great to wash the car but only in winter.
If you wash your cars in the rain in summer after a strong dry spell the rain can be very dirty and therefore does not work.
PS - My neighbours couldn't believe that I spent Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day washing, polishing and waxing my car!!
Nor could my right arm!! It nearly fell off from all the waxing on and off!!
