my personal opinion is that if a car has more power (i.e factory power kit) or better suspension (i.e OEM sport Vs OEM normal) is a moded car compare to standard one.
unless you name a modded car , a car that has only aftermarket goods....

for example how would you "name" a 996 TT with power kit 450 ps, a sport suspension, and ceramics?
and how would you name a 996 TT NO with power kit 450 ps, normal suspension, and normal brakes?

to me both cars are factory cars, but the first one is tweeked-modded with factory options....

I toatally agree about "reading" though....

Agree with Dock, x73/tequipment OEM parts/upgrades ain't 'mods', a pss9/assorted aftermarket stuff is in my book.

have in mind as well that

7:56 --- 155.798 km/h -- Porsche 996 Turbo, 420 PS/1569 kg (sport auto 06/00)

7:59 --- 154.822 km/h -- Porsche 997 Carrera S, PASM setting “Performance”, (Walter Roehrl WHEELS 06/ 2004)

wich is very very very impressive of course for the 997 S...
I believe WR also did a 7:40-something in the 997TT.

ok. if it is not modded, how would you descride it compare to a 996 TT 420ps, normal suspension , no ceramics?

(no offence-just asking)

Also keep in mind that Sport Auto only ran two seconds faster in the 997 TT (7:54) on Sport Cups than they did in the 996 TT on pilot sports.

Personally I think the 997 TT time is B.S., because that's not remotely possible that it would essentially be slower because of the small time difference on better tires, heck it wouldnt have beaten the 997 S on regular tires the way they drove it.

I dont think there were any publiched time from Walter on the 996 TT.

But back on topic k24's is overkill to beat the 997 TT. K16's, flash and exhaust will do it for sure. K24's + flash and the 997 TT gets dusted, period.

As far as the overall car, unless it's a Turbo-S or X-50 it doesnt really have a chance on the road course IMO. But that's if the 997 TT doesnt have the jacked up alignment that so many people have complained about.

I might shed some light on this question as I was part of the test.

Please note - acceleration only;
Was in my friend’s 997TT as a passenger, my other friend was driving 996TT (not my X50 but his stock modified car), Re-flashed, Cargraphics exhaust – same as mine and K&N filter, peak boost at 1.1 bar. On a 100 to 200km/h run 996TT pulled away from the stock 997TT by 1.3 seconds on WOT. The times were 8.5 sec’s versus 7.2 sec’s to the 996TT.

As far as handling;
I test-drove 997TT – not on track – and I felt it wasn’t as good as my 996TT. Granted my car is modified X50 and lowered by 20mm on H&R’s so it is not a fair comparison. I preferred the stiffer more responsive feel of my car. I am sure if 997TT would also be lowered it would probably have felt better but I am unable to say - it had more body roll than my car and I hated that. I don’t understand why people are saying 997TT is so much better than 996TT. The difference is a minute one. 997TT is probably 7% better than the 996TT and if some people want to write home about that – go ahead knock yourself out.

However, if you modify 997TT bye, bye goes to the 996TT.

rdss....

I understand that there is a way to beat the performance of a 997TT....(in fact I have seen 2 races 996TT Vs 997TT and in both 996 were in front....)

initial question-topic title was: " what are the minimum mods" in order to be a bit faster than 997TT.....
