All that being said, when I decided this summer that I could afford a turbo I decided I would be a fool to buy a 10 year old 993tt when the 996tt was clearly a better and more modern car.
So are you happy with your decision to buy the 996TT?

If it's a 993TT S even worser... They are priced about $ 140,000.00 with low miles
That is kind of where I am confused as well. I really enjoy the looks and steel vault construction of the 993TT, but when you can get a 6 year newer 996TT with lower mileage for the same or less money, your mind starts asking how much more you really like those looks.

So it terms of driving involvement for someone who really likes to drive, is it safe to say that the 993TT is more 'connected' to the road and the driver, and that the 996TT is more 'numb'?

Yes.

And a normally aspirated 993 will feel even more connected... the Turbos tend to numb the overall feel for these cars, imho of course...

Best of luck!

Yes, although I'd want a 993tt if I had a car collection. It does look very dated inside compared to the 996.

Look, I like both a lot and could only afford one....and safety and reliability for my daily driver trumped sex appeal.

I understand the interest in the 993tt, but having driven both, the 996tt is much better in just about every way, but particularly as a really usable transportation device. 993 production was much less than 997, so the supply is small, and willing buyers have a harder time finding willing sellers. While that is one measure of value, it isn't mine for a street car. AS

I would prefer the latest technology available ie 997TT……at this stage I can not afford one (997TT). Build quality vs Engineering processes should never be confused. In today’s competitive global markets all manufacturers are forced to streamline processes (six sigma). But the cars of today and tomorrow reflect advancement in all facets of engineering & efficiency.

At that time, in Australia(18 months ago), the 996tt were about $30,000 more expensive than the 993tt.They are almost the same price now, but the 993tt S commands a healthy premium.

The price differential between the 993tt and the 996tt is not a reflection of build quality, reliability or performance differences. It's mostly to do with the much lower build numbers of the 993tt which complicate discussions regarding relative desirability and value of both species.

You should buy one or the other based on looks, visceral appeal, budget and retained value considerations if you must. Either way, you will die a happy man.

For me, the 996tt is the " best buy" used sports car in the world.
That they are currently cheaper than the 993tt is a bonus for prospective buyers.
Rafiki and gobble... very well said. My exact sentiments.

Depends on what your definition of a drivers car is. If a bit of a fight and struggle with the car and working up a bit more of a sweat appeals then yes, the 993 will always be better, but if you want pure efficiency and the fastest way around a track, for someone of average driving skills a 996TT will always be a better bet in my opinion.

I have the best of both worlds: a 1987 930 (pretty much bone stock, about 250hp at the wheels) GREAT car! If it had a decent working A/C it'd be my daily driver (a Rennaire system is in the future).
My other car is a 2002 996TT X50, with several mods, about 480-490 hp at the wheels (butt dyno), fantastic car, truly the Honda of supercars (and I mean that in the best possible way).
Both cars are fantastic and will put a smile on your face everytime you get behind the wheel. The 996 is by far a superior driving experience. I do get far more comments and "thumbs up" when driving the 930!

I'm surprised they could only sell a few hundred 993tt's. Its not a bad car.
