unichip
Hi! Has anyone tried this chip for one's 996TT? My mechanic highly recommends it. My 996tt is stock without any modifications yet. Is the difference really that huge and remarkable? Or is there any other good choices? Thanks!!

It's certainly possible that the Unichip product could do as well as any other
of the better-known 996tt programmers, but I wouldn't risk it for these
reasons:
1 - Extra hardware and extra connections means extra failure modes.
2 - Immediately apparent and could quickly trigger warranty loss.
3 - No user community or feedback. Here we have several heavily-used
and well-critiqued options, including good first-level boosts from Upsolute
for well under $1k, to multi-program flash units that plug into your OBD2
port, that can return to stock, do a valet program, and cope with any future
custom power changes, with vendors that post here and expose their support
practices to our critical eye.

Ditto on the comments above. Just not worth the risk IMO.
A "flash" is a simple process in which you plug a litle box into your OBD port to "flash" the ECU to your tuners program. Takes less than 5 minutes.

Yes Slant is 100% correct. Just plug your Pocket Programmer (supplied by your tuner) into your OBD port, located under your dash. Then download your OEM file onto the unit. Second step, send the Pocket programmer to your tuner (I used Kevin UMW ph +1 360 8059066). Your tuner rewrites/mods the file. Once you receive the pocket programmer with the new file you flash the file back to the DME (the cars brain)…..hope this helps.

I have Kevin's flash also and it is fantastic, takes 30 seconds once you do it a couple times. Many here have Kevin's product and his customer service is first class. I have never heard anything negative about the product or service. He also gives advice about other aspects of our cars that are not related to his tuning products and he owns 996TT's. Plus he has many stages of upgrades depending how thick your wallet is. Good luck. I would agree with Joe's answer above also.

It's true that the down side to unichip is the hard ware, it's a piggy back setup a module that plugs into your ecu and changes specific paramemters. I have worked with them and it's good but a hard flash or a hand held with custom program(by a seasoned tuner) is the best way to go. IMHO the hard ware is the only down side to this tuner, its german product and the tunes are safe make power and have no drive ability issues.

Everything with Kevin can be done through FedEx. One of the other guys can post a link to his webste. I can't, I'm a computer barbarian.
