Stock 996TT --> x50 996TT
Hello-
What modifications would I need to make to my stock 2002 996TT in order to "x50-ize" it?
I'm sure it's possible, but if I add/swap/modify the components after the fact, can I still call it an "x50"?
Thanks in advance!

Well to get it to the letter of the law, you would have to split your engine case open and install the dual pickup GT3 oil pump. You would also need to tear your tranny apart and reinforce the syncro's.. In the end it would be cheaper to buy one.

A X-50 doesnt have any designation on it besides on the sticker under the hood and front of the book so guess you could call it what ever you want

Hope I'm not beating a dead horse, but I was under the impression the stronger syncros thing turned out to be a myth?

put K-24's on and upgrade the intercoolers and poof you have an X-50.
there are no steel syncros in an X-50 tranny, I have seen and rebuilt my twice for what it is worth.
and that dual oil pick up thing I thought just started recently so earlier versions didnt have that set up.
but Kevin is the expert so he is the last word.

The X50 has alway had the GT3 pump.. Hey, Porsche says that there is a reinforced syncro.. You guys can battle that out.. I'm just telling you what they are saying.. You can even go further and say that the X50 exhaust is different..
Regardless. I have K24's and X50 programming available..

I'm not completely unfamiliar with upgrading my automobile. I had a 2001 X5 which I had modded with several Dinan upgrades. Since (as we all know) that sort of thing is extremely addictive, I decided I wasn't going to do that with my 911.
Things have changed. I've had the TT for 2 years now as a daily driver, and I'm very comfortable with my ability to control the car in a non-race setting. Thus, I have been pondering some upgrades - for example a new exhaust, since mine did not come with the sport setting and I think it's a little too quiet.
I asked about the "x50" modification solely out of concern for resale value. I have read many posts where people question the history of a modded 911, believing that many mods are done to enhance track performance or heavy street abuse. On the other hand, nobody questions the motivations of an "x50" owner as being one who is abusive to some of the parts used car buyers might care about (clutch, tranny, brakes, etc).
I'm aware of Kevin but unfortunately I live in the Northeast. I do have a mechanic I use who deals solely in P-cars, and I'm sure he can do nearly any upgrade I need. I would never get this sort of work done at the dealer, as I've had too many unpleasant experiences.

Duane and LAJ...Did you guys read his post? He already has a car (non-X50) and wants to know the effect of modding as far as resale goes. I say go for the mods now and enjoy them (resale on these things is a lost cause). I modded my brand new cab within 6 months...I went several routes before ending up with Kevin. I had an Indy do the work for me and although there were a couple of bumps in the road, it runs perfect now. Oh yeah it is fast.
