Default 18 x 10 ET 65 winter wheels (rear)?

Can 65 offset 18 x 10 wheels be used on the rear with spacers? I know the 47 offset wheels are preferred, but they are a little scarce to come by used. If so, would about 1" spacers be right to get the wheels spaced out close to what stock 11" 45 offset wheels would be? Even if they do fit, is this an acceptable solution (I'm not really a fan of spacers)?

FWIW, The Tire Rack specs ET 65 wheels for winter packages for the TT.

Thanks,
Jason

I'm no expert but...I believe that the higher offset will actually move the tire to the outside filling out the wheel area like the stock 11 inch 47 offset wheel. The 20mm offset difference is close to an inch (24.5mm = 1inch). So, no spacers necessary. I have a set of snow tires mounted on "replica wheels" that are 65 offset, 10 inch, but I havn't put them on the car yet. The above info is what the seller told me. By the way the 265 tires look big and I think will look just as good on the car, and they are the factory recommended size. See if you can get this info confirmed, I don't want to mislead you. Thanks. I may be a bit confused. My understanding is that offset is a measure of the distance from the centerline of the wheel to the mounting surface of the wheel.

A larger offset means the hub (mounting surface) is further from the centerline, so that for a given wheel width, the higher offset wheel will be further "pushed in."

If this is true, then a 1" narrower wheel with the same offset would be 12.7mm (25.4/2) further "in" at the outside rim relative to the fender. If the offset is 20mm more, then the outside of the narrower wheel would be 32.7mm (or about 1 and 9/32nds") further in relative to the fender. So, to be close to stock I would need a 1.25" spacer.

Am I all wet?

Anyone else using 18x10 rear wheels care to weigh in on this?

Thanks,
Jason

Thanks, but I am looking for 18x10s to fit winter tires. I also have an excess set of chrome solid spokes, so if you find a buyer ask him if he needs two sets!

Many ways to think of offset......some find it easiest to just remember that the number (in mm) measures how much the wheel & tire is 'pushed in' the wheel well. A number that is 10mm less indicates a rim that is 'pushed in' 10mm less....ie it's out 10mm more.
Wheel width changes affect offet by 1/2.......ie for every inch increase in J width, add 12.7mm in wheel offset in order to maintain the same 'fender line on the larger wheel. If you do not adjust offset, the wider wheel will appear to be 12.mm 'out' further than before.

10J 18s are standard wheel on regular 996.

I just picked these wheels up for winter.....rears will need 15 mm spacers in the rear to look like stock offset. ( FOR TT AND C4S) Fantastic price with stock "look". They're gonna take a beating...didn't want to spend loads on them.

And...here's an offset calculator that Tim in the 996 forum found for me.

Thanks everyone. I found a set of OEM wheels (18x8,18x10s with a 47 offset) already mounted with Blizzaks. Then I found a set of 15mm H&R spacers with bolts on Craigslist, so I should be good to go now.

I paid $100, including the bolts and shipping. New, the spacers run $90-100, and the bolts are $4-5 each (you need 10, obviously).
