I hate to disagree with you, but the article says this, "Porsche introduced a Turbo "S" in 2004, featuring the X50 engine upgrades and the formerly optional ceramic brakes as standard equipment. Ceramics are standard on an S, period. They introduced it in '04 for the model year '05. Call Porsche and give them your vin, have them send you a certificate of authenticity, for that matter, they will tell you if it's an S or not right over the phone. Your car is an '03 with the x-50 package. Bigger intercoolers and k24s. It looks like a re-badge "Turbo S" job to me.

I am the National Advocate for Porsche Club Of America 911 Turbos and I have a 2005 Turbo S. They only made 996 Turbo S models in 2005 and are a limited production model. Send me you VIN and I get you the information you need. You can go to http://911turboregistry.com or www.pca.org/forums and find my cell number and email to send me the information.

The PCA Turbo registry is currently compiling a list of all Turbos with corresponding VIN’s and I started with my car (2005 Turbo S).

No 996 Turbo S models were produced in Germany until 2005.

you have a standard 996 turbo with X50 engine kit.

Not a "Turbo S". Hope you did not pay for the "S"...

This is correct. I can tell you that your car had a MSRP of $141,000 so do not feel too bad. The car was pricy and you do have the larger turbos. The 996 Turbo S was only a 2005 production year.

I think it should have the Turbo S nomenclature on the tachometer, on the door sills, and on the shifter.

The tach will have Turbo S only if it is the stock white color. If yellow or red, it will only say "Turbo". Also, right below the radio and below the "CD" holders.

maybe you just paid a premium for the X50 and the relatively late build year.

if you paid 8k USD more compared to a 2001 non-X50 I would say that is a very good deal.
