Default X50 vs. Turbo S

Hi,
I have bought 2003 996 Turbo S here in Europe. (Czech Republic) ..... I have a question .... Is Turbo S (450 Hp 620 Nm) diferent than 996 Turbo X50 ?
I think - horse power is the same, turbochargers are K24 , muffler is from GT2 ...

Thanx
Tom

Hey Tom,

Welcome aboard!!

Nice set of wheels you bought.

Below is a info on the Turbo S which is the Same HP as the X50.

Mimochodem, ses nahodou s Ceske Republiky?

Porsche 911 Turbo S Coupe

The evocative twin-turbocharged, 3.6-litre flat six engine has been tuned in the Turbo S model to develop more power and torque for even greater performance – and Porsche engineers have achieved this while ensuring fuel consumption and emissions barely differ from the standard Turbo model.

The vital statistics of the Turbo S are impressive. Power is raised by 30bhp to 450bhp, and pulling power leaps to 620Nm from 560Nm. This increase in engine responsiveness manifests itself particularly during in-gear acceleration – which is stunning. The engine delivers these remarkable figures courtesy of larger turbochargers, modified intercoolers and revised engine management electronics. Additionally, the six speed manual transmission has been strengthened to handle the torque increase.

The brakes of the 911 Turbo S have also been uprated similarly. Fitted as standard are the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB) system, offering a 50% weight reduction per wheel over the conventional steel brake disc equivalent, as well as superior fade resistance characteristics under heavy braking.

Standard equipment on the Turbo S includes metallic paint (including a special colour – Dark Olive metallic), Xenon headlights, a BOSE audio system and the Porsche Communication Management System (PCM) incorporating audio, telephone and satellite navigation functionality. Additionally, the Turbo S offers 18" alloy wheels painted in GT Silver metallic, plus full leather interior trim, aluminium-coloured instrument dials, cruise control and a CD autochanger.

To my knowledge, at least in our country, there is no such thing as an 03 TT S? the S badge is the last of the TT model year.
Anyway the X-50 engine and the S engine are the same in hp, ICs, and turbos.
Welcome and enjoy your new car!!

Hey Tom,

Actually the wind of destiny didn't blow me too far as I was born in Melbourne Australia, However I am off European background being Italian. Having stated this, the wind did blow a Beautiful Girl all the way from Brno into my life some 4years ago and thank God she said yes as we are now married!!

I spent 4 days in Jedovnice (u Blanska) & Praha Christmas Last year and absolutely loved it and we are planning on going back over the next year or so.

Adelaide (Mesto Kostelu) beautiful city, however since you are coming all the way over to the other side of the universe it would be remiss not to go to Melbourne & Sydney. It's well worth it!!

Techart wheels ar the BEST and I can see why you got these, next you have to get a good exhaust system so that you can feel alive when you drive your baby.

Attached is a picture I took in Praha when I was there.

By the way I have an X5 D as well. You have good taste!!

And the 2005 turbo S production numbers are 500 world wide, 250 imported to the US and 100 are cabs.

I too like the tech atr wheels, they look like they are moving when they are stationary. Take a look at page 122 of the MLE magazine. The orange GT3 RS has a set of rims and they look great. I like the rennwork rims.

According to Loren at Renntech the Turbo S has approximately 483 hp (ttp://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=12027). I know this is different than what the official specs say. It surprised me!

Ah, No. It had 444 bhp/450 sae. The Gt2 in '05 had 477 sae. The S did not have more hp than the 2.

"M9670-645 is a 360 KW (or about 483 HP).

G9650-40 is a 6 speed transmission."

I know, but he is wrong. He may of confused the '04 '05 Gt2 specifications with the Turbo S. The Gt2 specifications are 483 bhp and 477 sae. I believe European specifications uses bhp and the U.S uses sae. Also as far as I know, Porsche didn't produce a 996 Turbo S until '05. So I don't think your '03 is an S, it's an x-50, unless someone placed a Turbo S badge on the rear engline lid in an attempt to make it look like an S. Also all '05 S models had ceramic brakes standard (yellow calipers) from the looks of your photo, yours are red.
