Thanks, Elliot - that's a possibility, but are you sitting down?

I really don't plan on any track events other than a few 1/4 mile days. I am doing all this just to insure my safety for the 5 seconds per run (2nd 1/8 mile) that I will be at risk. I just want myself and my son (who usually makes a few runs) to be safer if something stupid like a blow-out happens in excess of 100 mph at or around the trap...

IIRC, PCA has now changed the rules for harness life, 2 yrs IIRC, unless the harness carries FIA certification, in which case the life is 5 years.
This may factor into your Schroth vs Simpson decision.

Another intangible is comfort and belt constructions. The Schroth belt material is strong yet very soft, which does make it a comfortable harness.

Also, the Hybrid sub mounting system/belts is usually considered the most comfortable, since it eliminates the Tbar.

FWIW, the Schroth Titanium Hybrid II I currently have in the Cup car is by far the most comfortable harness I've tried.
BTW, you can skip the Titanium option (makes them $600 and a 6 week lead time since they are custom made in Germany) and just go with steel at half the cost.....I was just being a geeky engineer and wanted to see the Titanium hardware used....pretty impressive, but not necessary IMHO.

Do you know the Schroth SFI rating? Is the Schroth FIA rated and Simpson not?

I'm not sure why you would worry about SFI when you can buy an FIA rated harness, but here is the info:
http://english.schroth.com/engineeri...izierungen.php
Certified Restraint Systems and Seats
Racing:
FIA 8854/98, FIA 8853/98, FIA 8858/2002, Sfi 16.1, Sfi 16.5

I don't know if Simpson harnesses have FIA approval or not.

ltc,

Because in order to run under 11.5 in the 1/4 mile, your seat belts must be SFI 16.1, within 2 years of manufacture, as well as roll bar, SFI rated fire suit, etc....or you can't run. They are very strict about it. I ran 11.515 last year (less than 2/100 of requiring this stuff) before considerable upgrades this winter, so I "expect and hope" to eclipse the 11.5 barrier this season. The drag strip is a different world, I'm sure, and I have not seen any mention of FIA in the IHRA rules...everything is SFI. I do know there is a point (ET/Trap) where they require Hans or approved equal.

Garey, do you have a picture of this setup in your car?

For anyone interested....I have verified the Schroth Profi III and hybrid III are both FIA and SFI 16.1 rated. They will sew on the SFI 16.1 tags by request at time of order. The II series are not SFI 16.1 approved - you need the 3" lap belt for 16.1 -
