Default Top speed per gear

I'm trying to learn the car, since i recently got it, and i'm afraid to downshift and over reving the engine, so i figured i would ask if anyone knows the top speed per gear so i adjust my driving style, per gear/speed/etc

1st gear-
2nd gear-
3rd gear-
4th gear-
5th gear-
6th gear-

What's the top speed on this car with ecu flast/filters/valves/headers ? JW

For a six speed
1st=~42 MPH
2nd=~70 MPH
3rd=~102 MPH
4th=~127 MPH
5th=~154 MPH
6th=~190 MPH
These are also with stock size tires.
In the TIP's
1st=~45 MPH
2nd=~75 MPH
3rd=~119 MPH
4th=~169 MPH
5th=~202 MPH
Again with stock tires.

Note - these were the best approximations I could read from the graphs I have.

Has anyone ever tried to go over 160MPH? I read somewhere they have tested the car in the fields of Salt Lake, and going above 160MPH was very difficult since the tires were starting to loos grip...

Viper GTS 99 vs 01 TT stock

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

so we had the race... from 0 - 140 ?

Let's see, i'm fairly new driving stick shift, anyways .. i lost

My launch technique i used, i left psm on, launch from 3k rpm.... i got aboue 1/2 lenght on him and kept it till 3rd gear where i suck at shifting and bam he won by 2-3 cars.

from a roll, 40 mph roll or so, we both gun it up to god knows to what speed....i beat him by about 1 car

his mods: k&n / some intake hoses for better flow/ and braded intercoloer lines / bbs wheels/ short shifter kit

i gota work on my shifting !!

My guess is that the tip can hit that in theory but I doubt it will hit that high - again data from a graph. I have been over 160 a few times and no it's not unsettled - my non aero kit car used to get a little funny about 120 then settle in over 135 but the areo kit car I now own is rock solid all the way through the speeds - just an FYI.

Don't be confused by the "theoretical" top speed computed at redline in top gear. Aerodynamic drag will prevent a stock turbo (tip or 6-speed) from exceeding 190, perhaps a bit less. Still... pretty impressive.

So for normal everyday driving, at which RPM do you start to upshift? I've been shifting before 4K rpm to try to extend clutch life.

docao,

Shifting at ~ 4000 rpm is fine, if you don't want/need to extract the horsepower on tap, but it doesn't really extend your clutch life. The trick for clutch life is minimizing the amount of engagement time, and minimizing the difference between the flywheel speed and the input shaft speed in the selected gear (matching revs). My shifting is done at lots of different RPMs, depending upon how cold the engine is, what gear I'm in, the load on the car, and if there is a Viper next to me.

RdRunner I think a better question would be who on this board HAS NOT gone over 160 mph with there car????

If this car is driven aggressively ie floored to red line in each gear, you are over 150 just getting on the highway on a long on ramp!!

I have the car over 150 all the time at the track and there is never any unsettling or loss of grip, in fact the faster this car goes the more planted it is.

Try it, you'll like it!
