Default Most common things to watch out for in a 01 Turbo

I am considering moving up to a 01 Turbo. I wanted to get a feel for what to expect in regards to common problems. For instance, with the n/a 996 there is RMS issues. Is there any common problem with the 01 Turbo?

TIA

Cool

Search is your friend - common problems are down to diverter valves (should replace anyway for better aftermarket units), clutch master and slave cylinders that leak, accumulator, 2nd gear pop (earlier cars and most likely repaired by now).

Outside of the tranny issue in the earlier cars the other stuff is fairly easy to repair and not a big issue.

Here is a thread that I keep for the issues and mods to my car.

Pending projects and a few questions

MAF, diverter valves, clutch power assist slave cylinder, clutch, slightly bent wheels, plugs, second gear pop out.

Also add the ignition switch problem... but not specific to the 996TT... it affects all cars (Boxsters, 996, 996TT, etc...)....

Ask me how I now know... mine just failed. When I turn off the engine and took the key out of the car, it still thinks my key is still in. Power and everything still on. I had to put the key very slightly back in and turn it counter clockwise a few times. I also have a problem with putting the key into the ignition now. I have to jiggle it and try different angles to get it in.

The plug change from FR5 to FR6 is a 'whenever you normally change your plugs' update:

Wachuko--You mentioned the "newer" cars should have the second gear pop issue resolved. What year did they fix this problem? Looking to pic up a 2002 to 2003 TT and want to know if this still is an issue in these years.

Thanks,

kris

Solid, solid cars.

2nd gear pop-out is not only on 2001 cars.

go to 6speedonline and read sticky thread on "2nd gear pop out"

It affected most years.

2001 is slightly lighter than later years and if you want to keep factory wheels then make
sure (or buy different lighter wheels) that your target car has the hollow spokes. Some of the
early 2001 had solid spoke wheels. Wear and tear items were mentionned above, clutch,
slave cylinder (which I also had to replace on my 993TT), put some new oil and new FR6
plugs and let er rip. Motor is bullet proof!! Modability is exciting and can cost $thousands
(per month).

good luck

Marty

Ok...extremely dumb question. Please forgive me for my ignorance. 2nd gear pop only happens to manual tranny's correct? I would assume tiptronic/automatic is unaffected? Sorry to piggyback on this thread...
