I, along with a number of other guys from the Sacramento Valley and Reno area have switched to the Mobil 5W-50. Our temps here get well into the high 90s and bust the century mark regularly during the summer. Winters seldom see temps below 27 or so......so it didn't seem logical to be using the 0-40 which is really a sort of generic approach to world wide environmental conditions for the Porsche engines.....the safe way to go no matter where you are....so to speak. Better a little more consumption than not getting oil and proper lubrication to the critical parts.
As I said, I recently switched, and immediately took a 1200 mile hard run up Hwy 101, did some of the coast highway (Hwy 1), cut over thru the Trinity Alps on Hwy 96 to Hwy I-5 and then back down to the Sacramento Valley again. Most of the mountain roads were GREAT runs....I could smell the tires when I'd go back to the motel where I stayed for a couple days while fishing and doing some white water. The bottom line is that the oil pressure has stayed slightly higher, and after that trip with some really hard driving, I was only down one hash mark from full. Under other conditions using the 0-40, I would have added at least 3/4 of a quart or slightly more depending upon how hard I was driving it. I'm a convert....and with that, I bow out of the oil discussion not wanting to start another Dostoyevsky novel on the merits/demerits of one oil over another.

Doc....did you mean you bought six cases...or a six pak case? With 1,961 posts I know that it would insult your intelligence to tell you that you need 9 quarts.
I see you're in Atlanta...I'm sure you're going to see that it makes a difference. I'm about to go order another four cases myself. I had ten cases, then the local guys kept coming by and getting them, so I need to reorder and keep it on hand. Luckily, my source is only 40 miles away.
Any local Sacramento area folks who would like to buy some Mobil 0-40 at a good price? I have a partial case left over from when I switched to the 5W-50

Dock
P.S. I'm not easily insulted.

you guys are so funny...making up stories about what you can hear and oil consumption...just to feel good about your oil choices...I would bet there is no REAL data to support the claims...LOL flame away.
