Track Tires revisited
I just did some searches on this forum and really couldn't find a consensus on what are the best tires that fit the 996TT for track/street use. I am looking to find a good compromise tire that can be driven to the track (up to 200 miles one way) but also hold up at the track.
I am planning on using the OEM turbo wheels (18x8 and 18x11) as the track wheels.
Some choices:
1.) Michelin Pilot Sport Cups (what size?)
2.) Toyo RA-1 (consensus here was that there wasn't a size that works on 996TT)
3.) Yokohama Advan A048 (seems to have OEM sizes available)
4.) Yokohama Advan Neova (seems to have OEM sizes available)
5.) Falken RT 615 (need to probalby run 235 front and 315 rear)
Anyone with any experience with these tires? Any other suggestions?
For anyone running larger than 305 in the rear, did you have to roll fenders? Are you on stock suspensions?

New Hoosier S6 (or R6):
the 6's last alot longer than the old 5's
I use on my factory wheels and the fronts are 245's !!! no rubbing
stick like glue, you will win!

Does the hoosier have enough tread to allow you to drive on the street (and it rains...). I'm just not planning on doing the trailer thing again or having to change tires at the track.
EDIT: I just found them online - those are definitely not going to work for the street - but I'm sure they will kick some rear at the track.

The overwhelming choice is Michelin Pilot Sport Cups. Call Tire Rack and they will ship them to your door. Sizes for 996 Turbo are exactly the same as stock. 225 fr, 295 rear... You can drive them around on the street, and they will last longer than any other tire in the category. If you want a street tire, and are willing to lose some grip/performance, you can try the Yokohama Advan Neova's, or the Bridgestone S02 Pole Positions.....Both of these are high performance street tires, but can be tracked if you keep an eye on the pressure....I run the Michelins at around 36PSI Full HOT.

I think the PS2's are a better street/track comprimise, but that the Neova's are a better track tire with acceptable steeet characteristics. The Neova will feel more like a Hoosier than the Ps2. But they are mighty close. The Neovas being somewhat cheaper....but in OE sizes only.

MPSC's - 225/295
I asked the Michelin tire engineer for a air pressure recommendation at the PCA Club Race at RA. He told me that "Dead cold in the morning - 26 psi front and rear. They should run at 32 - 34 psi hot." I followed his advice and they ran great.
Cheers,

Looks like the overwhelming consensus is MPSC using 225 front and 295 rear. Any reason why you did not go to 235 front seeing as how the cars tend to understeer?

Tom,
I have driven 120 miles + 120 miles + 120 miles to and from track (I bought them at the track)
Hoosier R6's. plus 2 track events with a total of about 150 track miles and they still look great.
I geuss rain is a bitch though. (245's on the front work fine on my car 18's)
Oh, and they are really fun if you come across an overzealous Pontiac trans am driver on
your way home from the track...man I am ruthless sometimes!
