I received good news this morning from my dealer.

Finally, I have the PCCB brakes on my Turbo!! It has certainly taken long enough.

Of course, I am still stuck in Connecticut so I cannot give any details or photos yet but as soon as I get back to Belgium I will report on what I find.

I collected my Turbo this afternoon. They have installed the new PCCB brakes.

A little early for first impressions. Technically, the rotors are specific to the Turbo while the calipers appear to be the calipers found on the GT2.

Query if anyone has seen any specific brake-in procedures???

A couple quicky photos:

Thanx Jack!!! Was thinking about trying a trip to Nürburgring tomorrow. That should be an enjoyable way to celebrate.

I think you are totally correct on the use of the word "finally". Let's see, I took delivery March 2001 and only now at the end of June 2002 are they getting around to giving me them. I would say that is a good test of one's (my) patience.

My understanding is that I am so far the first and only one to get this in Belgium. My dealer has another customer that is also waiting and upset about this. And I'm sure that the situation is the same at every other dealer in Belgium (if not the rest of Europe).

The only thing that makes me feel a little better about it is that I did get 34,000 km to kill the first set of cast iron brakes. <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

Ok, I’ve now done a few hundred kilometers so time for a little feedback on the PCCB’s.

First reactions were not so great. I had some issues with the feel of them including the power, softness and initial bite. This started this morning when I saw a radar trap while traveling at 250 km/h. I nailed the brakes expecting to activate the ABS on all wheels. This didn’t happen and instead the peddle went much of the way towards the floor.

However, I’ve now noticed some brake fluid runs from the caliper bleed screws which probably explains all of this (allowing air into the system). So I need to get this sorted a.s.a.p. and maybe then I can get some more useful impressions.

But unrelated impressions are:

1) I swear I can feel (and even more so hear) the difference on the suspension when going over bumps. Very nice!

2) Lots of brake dust. So much for the b.s. about the end of brake dust!

3) I think that they are getting pretty hot. I can smell the brake when I stop.

4) Mostly I'm seeing the machining marks on the rotors disappear and a super-smooth surface. But I also think I might be starting to see lines in the rotors similar to what you get on a cast iron rotor due to uneven wear of the rotors. I’m wondering if this is this normal.

Ok, time for a little more feedback on the new PCCB's.

The car has covered 700 miles including 6 laps at Nürburgring (mostly easy laps because I've been away for a while, was being careful of the new brakes and there was lots of traffic yesterday).

The car is now back at the dealers with no prospect of getting it back anytime soon.

The major problem is that three of the four callipers are leaking brake fluid around the bleed nipples (and obviously sucking air in through there also).

Furthermore, after 700 km. the P40 pads are now 1/4th worn. (My previous standard pads on cast iron rotors lasted more than 34,000 km. including many laps at the Nürburgring). From photos, they look like they've been baked.

For some reason, Porsche is putting the P40 on the Turbo even though the P90 is standard on the GT2. Noise issues probably? (I've had no squeeking so far).

FixedWing,

I am sorry to hear about this for the six piston brake calipers! From what I was know Brembo has fully automated products lines and they have an very high error free production level especially in calipers.

Kostantin & R.D. Linton : what are you have to say about this as both of you using these calipers ???

Rgds to all,
Jim

In fact, I have not been using the new six piston caliper and, as such, I cannot opine. I have been using a heavy duty 4 piston Porsche/Brembo setup with metal rotors -- and, in fact, I have never had any problems nor have I had any problems with any Brembo product in the past.

And I should add to what Robert has already said that I have been asking about this in quite a few places and so far I seem to be the only person I've found that has this problem. Even other kits that were put together for the GT2 at exactly the same time do not exhibit this leaking problem.

Maybe something was wrong during the installation at the dealer ???
Is the only that I can think...

Porsche ALWAYS make a second quality test on the parts that it gets from other suplier. In average about 30% of teh parts that already passed the quality control of teh suplier it fails the Porsche check.
Are you sure the dealer got the brakes from Porsche or maybe directly from Brembo??? Maybe these are some of teh calipers that failed the Porsche inspection and now have been sold by someone else?

I never heard or saw a Porsche Brembo caliper with problems. We race these calipers in 6 race cars and none of them had a problem.

Hi All,
quick question...
If I upgrade the front callipers & rotors on a 996TT to a 6-piston & 380mm rotors, can I keep the rear stock callipers & rotors without any degradation in neither performance nor use?

TIA

Does anyone have the part numbers on the REAR brakes off the 02 cup car? What is the best source for parts from Porsche Motorsports, I have placed numerous calls to them with no return.

Hello guys,

Well, if you upgrade to 380mm fronts it is highly recommended to upgrade to 350mm rears or to install a adjustable brake proportioning valve.

Maybe Robert Linton and/or Konstantin have the 02 GT3 CUP rear calipers part # ?

Rgds,
Jim
