But you lose the Laser detection function, right?

David, I asked the same question to Eurotek, waiting for a response. I am assuming that it is only the remote display that is concealed in the mirror, while still having to mount the V1 on the visor or somewhere else. I may be wrong, will find out soon.

An alternative to the Valentine that I had installed is a combo package of the Passport SR1 with dual under-bumper front & rear radar/laser detectors and a Passport ZR3 laser jammer with dual units in front and single unit rear.
The display for all this is hidden in the mirror with the actual radar box in the headliner console. The laser box is hidden up under the dash. My installers also used one of the dead switches in the center console to provide a mute switch.
This whole package, including install, ran me about $1,500.

How do you like the Escort? I have a Valentine one but wanted something that was more "permanent" so I was going to have the Escort installed next week. Does it give a lot of false alarms? Is it annoying to have it on while driving around town? Any other feedback would be appreciated.

Not annoying at all. It comes on with start up. A dial was installed on bottom of mirror for volume and On/Off; and there is the mute button I mentioned, though it also has a self-mute.
Mine is set to "automatic" so I very occasionally get a false alarm. If you prefer you can set the sound so low as to just be able to hear a very loud warning (which you will see in mirror display out of the corner of your eye anyway).
It has saved me at least three times in the month I've had it. A few bits of advice: with the increasing use of "pulse" radar, you get a immediate full warning, and have got to slow--fast!! Also, the laser jammer is a must. Using a detector alone, once you get a warning, you've probably also been clocked (unless you get lucky with scatter).

I have the V1 with the blinder laser jammer. I have had no tickets so far in 6 months. I had it installed by <a href="http://www.mobileextreme.com" target="_blank">www.mobileextreme.com</a> in elmsford NY. The setup with the blinder ran about $1500.00

Duane
Three questions: (1) is the guts of the detector in the rearview mirror, or just the guts of the remote display? (2) if the latter, where did you have the actual detector mounted? (3) if the former, do you still have rear radar/laser protection, or is your setup limited to front detection?
Thanks

To answer some questions. It's impossible to take apart the guts of the V1 since the front and rear detectors are one piece. Therefore you still need to mount the physical detector someplace else. One of the BMW guys has come up with a much more economical solution, check it out here: <a href="http://www.apexcone.com/Radar/RadarLove.html" target="_blank">http://www.apexcone.com/Radar/RadarLove.html</a>

David,
The guts of the detector are located in the dashboard. When you take apart the V1 you do lose the laser detection. To remedy this I have the blinder front laser jammer installed. This provides detection to the front that is what is most important. 99% of the time you are shot with laser it's from the front. If you are caught with laser no matter where you are shot blinder will pay the ticket.
