In NY they are a pain about front plates. I have simple thin black plate frames with clear plastic covers (not the kind that obscures the plate when looking at the side). I got pulled over for "speeding" but he couldn't tell me how fast I was going, I only looked like I was going real fast. He proceeded to give me a break by only writing me a ticket for an obstructed plate. Seams anything that covers a plate is illegal. I was going to fight it, but the $50 donation to the town court wasn't worth my while.
