Post Another GT2 crash, by a 16yr old

I know theres a lot of people on here from/around my area (Boca Raton, South FL.) but I don't think anybody has posted this, although I do see a lot of other GT2 crash threads.

A 16yr old kid here just totaled his brand new GT2 here. 1st car that his parents bought him, and had it less then a week (only a day or two old).....another GT2 down the drain <img border="0" alt="[grrrrrrr]" title="" src="graemlins/cussing.gif" />

Porsche should have had requirments set that people had to meet in order to buy the car, they are selling almost all of them to people who cannot handle them.....and what 16yr old can handle a car like the GT2 that still scares professional drivers with it's "bite your azz back" attitude if your not careful.

I presume the kid's parents bought him the car? What kid has that kind of money to spend on a car? If his parent's bought him the car, they should have their heads examined. If they felt compelled to buy their son (I presume it was a boy) such an extravagent gift, they should have splurged for a ECU upgrade and left it in valet mode!!!! Either that or buy him some driving school lessons.
Parents have to consider a 16/17 year old's first car "sacrificial" since the majority of them wipe them out.
How is that for opinionated?

I guess the parents wanted to "send him away", if you know what I mean...

Can you imagine what insurance would be on a car like that, driven primarily by a 16 year old? If the kid had been killed, I think the state would have a good case against the parents for negligence.

i agree with all the previous posts. when my 19 year old started driving 2 years ago, i bought her a 4 cylinder vw jetta, which has an excellent crash record. parents have to remember to discharge their parental responsibility-buying your 16 year old a high performance sports car is idiocy.

Stupid Stupid Stupid. The statistics regarding 16-17 year olds and sports cars are scary. A large number end up totalling the car, and hurting themselves or others. The GT2 is a handful for an adult, experienced Porsche driver. I can't imagine a 16 year old ever being safe in one, even with driving lessons. Teenagers just don't understand responsibility (as a general rule).

See its people like that who are 16 or 17, that get a powerful car and crash it and ruin it for the other 16 and 17 year olds who are more responsible.

I don't care if I was Bill Gates, or any other Billionaire. I would not let my son (when) get into such an incredible scenario.

When I was 15, my dad bought me a brand new Z28. Then we spent about $5,000 upgrading exhaust, stereo, body kit, interior, etc...

I went to a prep school, and while many people had their little 3-series, everyone wanted to ride in mine. It made me a bit cocky, so I drove the car rather aggressively. Around my 16th birthday, I decided to take it upon myself to shoot a canyon near my house. Let's just say that I took a turn way too fast. Being that the car had no traction control, no stability control, and crappy Goodyears, I wound up about 6 inches from hitting a telephone pole at 50MPH+.

I took that as God's way of telling me to slow the F**K down! As cheesy as it may sound, it was a sort of life changing experience for me, and I've never had a close call like that since.

Bottom line: I DON'T think that 16 year olds should have cars that are capable of such performance (although I'm glad I did). If however a parent HAS to splurge on a car like that, spend an extra $500 - $1,000 to send your kid to a proper DE class.

Suppose this kid had creamed a family in opposing car as he oversteered his way around a corner. With stacks of press clippings in hand from around the world testifying to the knife -edged thrill/danger balance of this car even in the hands of experienced sports car racers , that injured family's lawyer will have that kid's parents and deep pockets in court in a nanosecond.
Sure , the kid could do the same damage with an old Corolla , but human nature being what it is, average Joes and Janes will want to stick it to the rich kid's family for indulging a child with $190K car - forget the argument of cost of car vs annual income - that only inflames some people even more.

At the same time, there are quite a few kart racing 16 year olds who have much more business behind the wheel of a GT2 than many of the other more 'mature' current GT2 owners.

I still don't know why Porsche (knowing the scary capabilities of the GT2) didn't have requirments you had to meet in order to buy the car. Kinda like what Ferrari does on certain cars.

Even if they had requirements, I'm sure daddy's little boy would tell him that they won't let us buy the car if we go in and say it's for me. So you go buy it.
