Post Lost it in my GT 2 yesterday

Yesterday, I was having a bit of fun in my driveway and totally lost control of my GT2. My driveway is an eight of a mile long and there is a turn where I shift to 2nd during hard acceleration. The rear came out from around and thank goodness there was nothing but grass for about 200 feet. I have never felt so out of control. The GT 2 is the fifth Porshce I have owned and I have never experienced anything like it. PSM would have stopped me and my stupid self. I am a total novice at driving although I have attended a couple of driving schools. Just thought I would pass that along...I certainly have more respect for that car now.

One really important question:

did the neighbors see you?

"a bit of fun" sounds like a bit of an understatement.

A suggestion, try the PDE (Masters) in Alabama, it will help a lot. I know it did with mine, and is the perfect complement to DE track days, of which I have also done a few.

A man has to know his limitations. Sort of like hearing fiberglass crunch as your 40' searay hits the dock. Some lessons are cheap and some are expensive.

Glad you and the car are not hurt. Your gardners is going to be pissed though.

When we do this on motorcylces we call it going farming cause the ground gets all ripped up.

Isn't it sad the first thing I did was look around to see if anyone else saw the event!!! Speed was whatever close to redline is in 1st gear.

I have to say that is the funniest thing I have heard in a long time. When I read emorgan's comments followed by Eric's, I was rolling on the floor in hysterical laughter. What a gas!! No pun intended!!
Actually, in a related matter, I was taking a friend for a drive the other day and we were blasting through some twisties. I came to this surprise off camber, reverse vertical curve turn wherein it was the worst of all roadway geometry. I was on the gas at the time. As the car unweighted, the back of the car slid sideways slightly and then hooked up again. It was a little unnerving I must say. I don't know if PSM saved me or not. I have had my old 944 Turbo in a four wheel drift at 80 mph on dry pavement at Bridgehampton Racetrack (RIP) but the explosiveness of the 996 TT's power makes it more difficult to react quickly....to say the least!!
BE CAREFUL EMORGAN!!!!!

hey look on the bright side, now you have an excuse not to build a fence along the driveway

Also, don't worry about it, everyone loses control if they test the limits, just smile about it and now go about it more carefully

and i'm jealous of you people in the midwest, i had a family friend w/ a 2 mile driveway that was just perfect, out here you are lucky to get 20 yards.

Let's review here: you lost control of your GT2 on your own private eighth of a mile long driveway in Florida. Dude, my heart goes out to you <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> .

Next thing your going to tell us is that your blonde bombshell wife broke a nail while emerging from the Bentley.

Just kidding and of course I'm jealous of you GT2 owners. Looked at one today at Crescent. Fabulously sexy car.

Suffice to say, shifting gears and turns do not mix, especially in a GT2. The minute that clutch goes in you lose any chance at control.

Deanger,

You are absolutely correct. After a quick attempt at correction I pushed in the clutch and I was history. I then turned into the turn and hit the brakes as I was instructed to do at driving school when control was lost in a turn.

i don't have a gt2, i have a tt. but a gt2 must be a car that requires alot of skill to drive it by it's limits. with all due respect, you apparently don't yet have this skill. had you tried the maneuver which you tried on the road, you could have hurt yourself or other people. i would think that it would be incumbent upon yourself to not approach those limits when you drive this car (drive in a conservative manner) so that you don't hurt yourself or others.
