Post Seal Gray or Lapis Blue

Hello to all, new to the board. I will be leasing my 996TT within the next few months and have narrowed down my color choices to either seal gray or lapis blue. I would like to hear opinions of those who have seen these colors in person, as I have not. Also, if anyone has pics it would be great so see them. Thanks in advance.

Dr. G,

I live in the Northeast - drive the car daily and chose Seal Grey simply from the standpoint of ease of keeping it looking nice. I also got Armour Fend to help keep the rock chips etc from ruining the front end. I have salt coated and clean pics of the car if you like.....Oh Yeah ....Would you like Cuervo or Sauza or Cabo Wabo version of the salted pics.....T2

In the Bay Area Lapis blue is a very difficult color to resell,

Seal gray is a hot color.

If you're going to keep the car a long time it doesn't matter.

If you lease it doesn't matter.

If you buy, go with the Seal Gray unless you really like the Lapis Blue.

If you really like the Lapis Blue, then it's just part of the costs of ownership.

A chaque son gout!

seal is nice, but becoming too common. the two most striking colors on the tt imo are white... yes white, and cobalt blue. cobalt is incredible on the tt. with the lease, resale is a moot point.

I had a Lapis - looks fantastic after its been cleaned (especially in the sun!) but only for about a day after which every spec of dust etc seems to show.. be prepared for lots of polishing....

My new car is Seal

Good luck with it whichever you go for.

Grey and silver cars are very common and popular. I have lapis blue and think it is absolutely gorgeous. It is harder to keep clean, but when it is clean it looks incredible. Pictures really don't do it justice. It takes on different character depending on the light ranging from almost black to candy saphire. I have no regrets about lapis blue and would definitely get another one. Part of the fun of ownership for me is making the car look great by spending some time caring for it. Jim

White isnt a popular colour for Porsche but it is I think the best colour for a Porsche. They all look great in white. The 959 looks best in white.

Its your car but IMO Seal grey is boring. Who wants a car that looks the same dirty and/or clean? At least when White or black gets dirty, it looks great clean. With seal grey, even if you spend a half day cleaning it, it wont look much different than it did when it was "filthy".

The Turbo would look so hot in white.
IMO unless it is a solid colour Porsches just look like everyday vehicles..they dont draw my attention at all.

Seal grey is the new silver. Very nice and easy to keep clean. It was the color I thought I was getting. Cobalt blue is different and more striking than lapis. White is nice also. Silver is overdone on too many cars. Now yellow or red, if you want to be noticed. See which car stands out in these pics.

DrJim, Nice pics from that group - Milleridge Inn is close to where I used to live (grew up in Lynbrook, LI). Definitely no doubt that red stands out - I've always been a fan. My first car was a fully restored '68 Mustang, bright red. Unfortunately, I have always been a spirited driver and the mustang drew lots of attention from local law enforcement and state troopers. I moved onto a blue Maxima and now to a silver TT (Audi, that is - 225 Quattro Coupe with MTM Stage I ECU Mod). The more subdued colors have never drawn as much attention as the mustang did. I'm still torn between the lapis and the seal gray, but I think the seal gray is a very classy color and may not draw as much attention as some of the more vibrant hues. I chose the Turbo because of my love of driving - I figure the less my car stands out, the longer I'll be able to drive

I agree with you on the blending theory. My silver M5 never had a problem b/c it looks just like thousands of other silver BMW's here on LI. Either color will blend, but the seal maybe a little more. It's the one I'd pick if choosing between the 2. Good luck!

It is of course to each and everyones taste but, classic turbo colors:

- Indish Rot (red)
- Black
- Grand Prix White.

Everything else is trends and might be more 'in' at a certain point in time. However, they will also feel more dated than any of the classic paints after a while. For my personal taste, white is really stunning on a turbo of any vintage.

cheers

Christian
