X50 K24 Group Buy
I am putting together a group buy for anyone interested in OEM factory K24's. Price is determined on interest, however the savings will be substantial.

Turbo Modder Newbie Asks: If I am to upgrade my Turbo's, are the K24's the ones to get? I'm getting a little confused between GT1 turbos, REAL GT1 turbos, K24's and Hybrids. How many HP can a K24 safely handle. I'm trying to plan my longer-term mod path.
Thanks, Mike
Thanks, Mike

The K24's are for those of you who just want K24's. The GT1's are K16 hybrids. For the record most K16 hybrids will outperform a stock K24. The K16 & K24 basically share the same internals. If your engine can handle over 700hp the KKK's will. Due to the smaller turbine wheel, and smaller turbine housing A/R the K16 will spool 350 RPM quicker than the K24's. There are other factors to consider, like your ECU mod and how much boost you want to run.

Kevin: Thanks for straightening out some of the uncertainties. The quicker spool of the GT1 hybrids sound interesting. Why would a person want to by K24's? Do you and your company do ECU programming? Can you provide a link to your company so I can learn a little more about what you do? "996TTR" seems impressed.

I meant why would a person by K24's when the hybrib's seem to be better(?)

it is simple: the k24 make much more HP at the same boost than the hybrid k16 (GT1 Turbo)
k16 Stock ca 480 HP
k16 Hybrid (GT1) 520 HP
k24 600+ HP
k26 700 + HP
k27 xxx HP
The power of a Gt1 Turbo is between the stock k16 and a k24.
of cousre you can modify a k24 Too;-) and this will out perfom both.
For $1150 you can have a brand new if you want and there is No k16 needed as exchange.
In case you want to give your k16 in exchange, this can be discussed.

To add to the confussion here. I have a 993 GT2 Factory engine with GT1 turbo's on it. I upgrading those to differnt bigger turbos so I took the GT1's and tried bolting them on my 996 TT... they don't fit different bolt pattern on the exhaust side. So how are people putting GT1 turbos on their 996 TT's? Is there something else out there other than Real GT1 turbos that people are calling GT1 turbo's? I know mine are real, I bought them at the factory some years back. I've also heard that the shaft on the K16 is very small and if you try to blow too much air with it they tend to die rather quickly. any truth to that?

Cary;
It is a simple answer. The 996 and 993 turbine housings are interchangeable. To make the conversion in your application all you need to do is swap turbine housings and wastegate actuators. As a service, I'd do the conversion for you at no charge.
Konstantin;
On a stock engine a K16 modified with the factory compressor wheel K24(7006). Will put out more torque and HP than 24's. However, that is with a stock ECU. (.7 bar) Street 993's and 996's with GT1 K16's will out accelerate a K24, 9 times out of 10. This is due to the fact that the K24's have a 300-350 RPM lag due to the larger wheel/turbine housing. By the way, how do you provide factory stateside warranty support for the turbo's?
