Default Clutch Question

I just had a complete new clutch assembly installed in my 2001 996TT. Now I hear a squeal everytime the vehicle is in neutral. Also, when I first press on the clutch pedal, for the first few degrees of travel there is a noticeable shake through the pedal. Once it is completely depressed it goes away.

The shop that installed the clutch said they put the flywheel on the lathe and took off 1/1000.

Is it possible the shake and squeal is being caused by a warped flywheel?

Thanks for your input.

With the dual mass flywheel I don't know how they put it in a lathe?? That's a very big lathe to clamp on to the outer flywheel portion to have the jaws clear the DME ring.. If they mounted the flywheel on a spud I don't seen how they could get concentricity with the flexing hub.. I think your chatter is a mis-machined dual mass flywheel, or warped from heat that occured with your previous failed clutch..

You cannot machine a dual mass flywheel, I tried that on my car with a stage II Spec clutch. I bought a new dual mass flywheel with the intent on putting it in but I did not and instead bought a Tilton Triple Disc setup for my EVOMS GT700. I have a brand new dual mass flywheel if you want one..PM me..

Cheers,

Ben

I thought when you needed a new clutch that meant it was time for the LWFW and Sachs upgrade, unless you do what BBB did! that's why they call him BIG BAD BEN!!
Get a light weight flywheel if you need a new one!! Unless BBB is makin you a deal!

Yes you can turn a dual mass flywheel. We do it on every 996/993 clutch job we do.

edit: we do have to use a machine shop to do it though, your standard parts store can not turn it like they can a single mass.

Do you have to use a surface grinder?

How the machine shop does it, I do not know, that is one area I leave solely up to them, lol. I can ask them next time I drop one off though.

The correct proceedure is using a specific flywheel surface grinder, that has a large grinding stone that surfaces the flat plane of the flywheel.
