Default 2005 996TT navi swap?

Just got a 2005 Turbo S cab and this is my first Porsche so I'm in learning mode right now...

Does anyone know how hard it would be to swap the navi head unit in my 2005 turbo S cab for an Eclipse AVN unit? I've installed the AVN in my last car so I'm familiar with it but I think that the 911 Navi may be tied-in to the cars computer with some sort of bus that might make this simple swap difficult...Scott

Hard since the stereo uses the MOST wiring schematic for P cars and would require a complete redo of all wires to speakers and nav unit.

Yes, all MY03+ Porsche models use a fiber optic interconnect from the headunit to the amplifier to the CDChanger and back to the headunit.
It is called MOST (Media Oriented Systems Transport):
http://www.mostcooperation.com/
http://www.techonline.com/community/...on_member/5591

There are currently NO aftermarket MOST headunits, amplifiers, adapters, etc.

MOST headunits are designed and manufactured by Becker (except in Japan, but that's another story).

You can remove your headunit, but you will have to also remove the amplifier, CDChanger and any other MOST devices and install old fashioned line level analog copper wiring interconnects between the components. You will also lose other OEM PCM functionality.

Any good stereo installer can tear your car apart and install any components you desire.

Essentially to swap you might as well consider it as a total replacement...speakers and wiring. You had better really not like the stock system (which ain't that bad). Also the current head unit integrates with the on board computer...using MOST.

Not quite. The headunit integrates to the I/P via the MOST/CAN gateway. The I/P or onboard computer is NOT on the MOST bus. The MOST bus is reserved strictly for infotainment devices.

My bad...what he said. I still do not know anyone who switched it out without complete replacement. I saw this thread as well:

No problem, I just happen to know the guy who designed the Bose MOST DSP amplifier in all MY03+ Porsche vehicles

No, it's a complete replacement required: headunit, amp, CDChanger (and speakers if you so desire)

Densionusa.com has been promising a unit since January when they 'demonstrated a prototype'....It's a year later and still nothing.
There are some other companies promising units early next year. Lots of good information on MOST and iPod/AUX input adapters over in the Cayenne forum

I removed the stock am/fm/cd bose stuff and installed all new with the eclipse avn and a 5 channel amp. You have to run most new wiring for the head unit to amp. You can splice into the speaker wires at the front amp harness. And splice into the power at the stock head location. Remember to use the stock pink/grey (if I remember correctly) for the speed pulse sensor. The GPS antenna is the same as the porsche located in the center-front windshield hump and you can locate it there.
Nothing in the other porsche systems will effect anything in the new system.
You will have to build an all new mount for the avn head unit.
