Default Help....what is this sound...

I have an 03 Tip....uphill 3rd gear, relatively low rpm 3k grating sound of metal until car gets higher in the revs. Heard only once on level ground, replicated easily uphill. Driveline, trans? Porsche Approved...hmmm. I wont jump to any drastic conclusions.

Thank you for your thoughts, DW

W.A.G.= heat shield vibrating or part of exhaust vibrating.

Sounds like it happens under higher engine loads. Can you duplicate in 4th?

Duce - I can replicate in 5th and 5th, easy to do uphill, much harder on level ground. No noice in idle or revving thru the band from standstill. Seems like low rpm only. I dont feel anything thru the wheel.
Full PA warranty, just dont like the hassle esp in Los Angeles where it's Auto Gallery or Bev Hills.
Much appreciation. 5 days with the new toy and already an issue.

Try Rusnak in Thousand Oaks, I have had very good experiences there and they always give you a rental on them.

My X50 is rattly in 5th and 6th and was the front diff. New front diff was installed and the same noise returned. Porsche UK then told the dealer it was normal and was due to a change in tolerances in the diff. Bulls**t if you ask me but what do i know?

The brakes can be surprisingly noisy on these cars occassionally.
When you hear it apply the brakes, if the noise goes away that's it!
