18" vs 19" on 996 Turbo. What's the Verdict?
Do 19's completey throw off the geometry and kill the ride on this car? Not sure what size to get. I love the car the way it is (in terms of performance).

Peter: The overwhelming consenus seems to be that 18s ride better than 19s, and that the ONLY reason to go with 19s is for looks. If I'm wrong, I'm sure some of my Rennlist brethren will pipe up. I've never had 19s, so I'm NOT speaking from experience,. just from reading dozens of threads on the topic (don't take my word for it-- do some searches and you can see for yourself).
For some, the 19s look so good that it's reason enough to go for them. They do look great, for sure. But I recommend that you stick with the 18s. You will have fewer problems in the long run, and the 18s look pretty damn good too. GBG

I had 19" HRE 540R's on my old '03 turbo. They looked fantastic, much better than the factory wheels but the car rode much harsher and wouldn't corner as good as it did on the 18" factory wheels. On the street, it would not make much of a difference but on a track, it's very noticable. I made a decision not to go for 19" wheels on my turbo S because I do track the car occasionally and sometimes, on short notice, but there are times where I see them mounted on a 996 turbo and have the desire to go for it.

Both! 18's for the track and 19's for the street. Love the look of the 19's HRE 19's with deeper lip. Love the performance of the 18's with R compound. Love to mix it up.

My suspension is set to function fine w/19s.......I like em.....I use 19s for daily-show-and bling.....18s for the track......and 17s for the winter.
If it were one for all, I'd do 18s with flat lip (reverse drop)......with the larger centers they can look every bit as good as 19s IMHO.

I have 19 Kinesis on mine. I'm in LOVE with the look and really no diff in the feel until you get on it hard (eg; the track) I'm happy with my choice to go with the 19's.

The 19s are cool, no doubt. Just have to be careful which manufacturer you choose to buy, because some of them are very sloppy, in terms of quality. I have a set of wheels now that have run-offs that are completely screwed up, which is making the car wobble a bit at speed.
If the wheels have a deep dish or lip look to it, prepare to spend more money to keep them true, especially if you do any city driving, as they'll bend and warp over potholes, cracks, etc. (like, road force balancing). I'm about to take mine off and go with Techarts, which are a bit stronger.

that's what's nice about the quality 3pc wheels. you can repair or replace individual pieces that are needed. with one piece wheels the damage could be unrepairable or, if repaired structually could be compromised and not be readily noticeable once the wheels are refinished/repainted.
multi-piece wheels could make more sense if you drive on bad roads.
