Default Looking for '01/'02 TT

Hi folks,

First time poster...happy to be here. I come from the E46 M3 world and my '02 M3 was recently totalled in a wreck. I am considering the purchase of 996TT as a replacement; I'm trying to stay around $70-75k (6-sp mandatory, open to any other options). Does that seem reasonable? What, if anything, can I or should I expect for that price range? Is there anything in particular that I should look for or avoid?

Sorry for all the questions. Thanks for helping out this Porsche noob...I'm looking forward to contributing as well as learning from you guys.

Cheers,
Patrick

For $75k you can expect a '01 TT 6 speed with less than 20k miles, with a nice set of options if you are willing to travel. Most of these seem to be in California, South Florida, or near Chicago. For example, most seem to have Navigation, heated seats and the Bose stereo. Very few have full leather interiors or sport seats. The most common color schemes are Silver/Black, Black/Black, and Blue/Tan.

Pre-purchase inspections are very important

Thanks. I found an '01 similar to what you described (12k miles) in here in SoCal (I'm in San Diego) for $89k which I thought was rather high. It is at a dealer though, so I'm sure that is part of the reason. I don't mind traveling at all if I find the right car (road trip!!).

Are there any issues with the '01 models since they were the first model year? Any particular areas that I should pay particularly close attention to?

JASCLASS, what can you tell me about the car for sale that you mention in your sig?

I bought my 01 TT from hoehn.

It stickered at $86K...i neg'd easily to $80k

the car has the large full leather option, dev carpet and wood shift/brake handles, cd cahnger and the crappy DSP stereo 25k miles (lapis blue/tan&blue).

Prolly $10k in options new...

if you're not dealing with anybody - ask for Tony Daher, tell him that you're an "online friend" of Emeka (thats me). I imagine you should get the car for $82

good luck and great choice!

Default '02 TT for sale

I am very close to making the decision to sell my '02 Seal Grey/black 996T; 6 speed, 19.5K miles, nicely optioned and in excellent condition. My local Porsche dealer has told me their trade-in value as I am considering a 987 Boxster/S.. I will sell it for $78,500 (between their offer and market value) as opposed to watching them make money on it. As I am in Kansas City so transport of some sort would be required. Of course the drive home would be a blast! If you are interested, please let me know and I will provide complete details and pics.

Thanks,

Scott

I have an '03 M3 and a '01 TT (recently acquired). As nice of a car as the M3 is, every time I drive it after being in the TT it feels like my folks' old family sedan by comparison. Don't hesitate - get the TT even if it's a few K over your budget. You won't regret it.

Take your time and really look. I took some 4 months and finally found an '01 966TT, guard red, 6 spd, full leather and wood trim, with 23,000 miles on the odometer for $69,000. It was in excellent condition with just one tiny, tiny, tiny, rock chip on the hood. Now I did have to fly 2 states away to drive it back, but it was a joy driving it back.

I too was an M3 (2004) owner and I will say that once you drive the 966TT you'll kick yourself for not getting it in the first place.

Well, happy 996TT hunting.
