Default Purchase advice please!

I am looking to upgrade and I would like to solicit advice. I was originally thinking about the 997S Cab, but I am rethinking this as it seems these are a year away from being readily available and I am not wild about the prospect of buying full retail & sight unseen then waiting 6 mos for delivery. Further, I think in 2-3 years the 997S will be an unexceptional car once a 997 widebody is released. This has led me to consider a 996 Turbo Cab. There are at least 3 Turbo S Cabs available now, as well as several '04 Turbo Cabs in local dealer inventories. It would not be a daily driver; more of a fair weather indulgence. Although I am not singularly focused on resale/depreciation, I don't want to see the 996 TT values plummet once a 997 Turbo is released, as the 996 Carreras have done since the intro of the 997.
Please offer opinions on the following options:
1. New Turbo S Cab at C$205k (96% of list)
2. New '04 Turbo Cab at C$180k (92% of list)
3. Look for a preowned '04 this spring as they surface - Price?
4. Wait for 997 widebody - C4S or TT?
Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

I think you should be able to get a nice discount off a 996TT Cab, if you have to have a Cab, I would look in that direction.

The 996TT has been overproduced, hence its current value being very close to 993TT.
I would imagine that a 996 Turbo S Cab would depreciate in a similar manner.
A 996 Turbo S Coupe may fair a bit better, as there are far fewer bring brought to North America than cabs.

You have a lot of choices, but first define your "needs" and budget.

Is this car simply for crusin'...go for a used C4S. Do you "need" power then TT is the ultimate drug. A used 03/04 TT is great value. A Turbo S is a great (but expensive) package of the X50 + PCCB's + last of the model series marque value (if there is one only the future will tell). The least desirable would be a new 04 or 05 standard TT...that is the least bang for your buck. Finally, if you're going to heavily mod the car then find a good 01/02 TT since they're practically giving them away!

Hope this is of some help...

Thx for your opinion Bobby. I must admit that I am somewhat drawn to the "best of the breed" factor of the Turbo S, and this is definately lacking of the current 997S for which the best is still yet to come. I would not significantly modify the car, and does anybody really "need" the power of the TT?? I love the style of the C4S, but it has no more punch than my current C2 which is a little tame. I will confess it is the WOW factor of the TT S I am drawn to.
How do you like your Turbo S Bobby? Anything you would do differently?
Thanks for your input.

'Love my TTS and no, I would not do anything differently. I also did considerable pros/cons analysis for the Turbo S vs waiting for the 997 TT and said, Nah! live is too short to wait that long. And my car is going to be driven, not kept in a garage, 2 months and 4000 miles and I promised Pierre that I'd be following his mileage record setting endeavors...good luck!

Gofor,
Nobody even needs the power of the base 996. Having said that, the thrill factor of .6-.9 bar coming in on the highway is something you won't want to give up, once you have had it. The effortless slicing thru traffic makes each trip more enjoyable. Speaking only for myself (ttX50), I have not become immune to it.
Regarding depreciation, my philosophy is to drive it enough to make it relatively valueless at the end of 10 years (what is the market for 120,000+ mile tt's?). In that case, it doesn't matter what 997"s do to the value of low mile 996tt's. Personally, I don't think the car will be boring or worn out in 10 years. Good luck. AS
