MMH,
There was a thread long ago on break-in procedure which described hard acceleration and in-gear decelleration in a defined sequence. You might want to pull that up to see if you want to modify your driving style for a while. AS

Hi, just passing through your lounge on the Sunday. If a turbo car is driven hard it will consume more oil. Simple as that. The piston rings are designed to bend at high load to increase lubrication. Porsche does this on purpose. Also the hotter the turbo it will force the oil past the turbo (s) seal. Even for my low tech 944 turbo S - 1.5L of oil per 1000km or 620 miles is normal. If you take your cars up to 100mph you will not use up any oil. Beyond that better carry a spare 1L can of oil on long fast trips....

I would push for more testing, and tell them you really do not appreciate the implication that you beat on your car like they are saying (assuming that is true).

It's MMH - sorry for the late follow-up. I followed instructions and didn't push it too much for the first 1k miles... I'm bringing it into the dealer since I noticed about 1/4 of a quart below my car when pulling into the garage last weekend... not good. Also having some spoiler failures. So we'll see...

I have 750 miles on my new 2004 turbo. I'm generally observing the break-in rules (RPMs under 4200 for first 1800 miles), but I'm varying RPMs quite a bit and occasionally going over 4200 (but not redline). My salesman said he checked with the Porsche service manager at the dealership who said, "don't worry about any break-in." But I always liked the guy on a previous thread who said, who ya going to believe, your saleman or the engineers at Porsche who wrote the section in the manual about break-in?
I don't think I've burned any noticeable amount of oil yet. Still reads between the min/max marker.

I have read that you have to break in a engine on regular oil so it will seat the rings, takes 3000 to 5000 miles, then you can run synthetic oil. If you have always ran synthetic oil than switch to regular oil for two oil changes, then go back should seat the rings. Good luck.

My dealer doesn't replace the oil until the 15000 miles! Someone in a performance shop told me that syntetic is BS, in F1 and other racing category only regular oil is used. But 15000 miles without changing oil?!!!
