Default The Quest for maximum HP

A few month ago I purchased my first 996TT, being that I have alway wanted to stretch the envelope with this platform. I decided to purchase a GT3R engine. I will basically mothball my engine and make the needed modifications, to the "R" engine so that it will live under maximum boost. I have choosen this platform because of the ability to flow an awful amount of air. Being that the turbocharging will be easy for me, I will focus on coatings and having piston made to drop the compression. This engine has all the titanium rods and TI valvetrain (large valves). Here's a pic of the complete cylinder head...

Hear is a picture of a handful of connecting rods... From right to left we have:

1) Factory 930, 964, & 965 conn rod, very durable and provides long life when one balances and installs ARP rod bolts...

2) One of my favorites.. A Carrillo 930 conn rod, very strong, another benifit is that it has holes at the 4 & 8 o'clock position to provide oiling from the oil squirters that are in the case...

3) My new Titanium Pankl conn rod for my engine project... Extremely lightweight, strong and track proven for Porsche

4) 993TT & 996TT conn rod... This rod is the weakling of the bunch, it has some limitations. If you look at the neck of the rod, it is very narrow. Also, the rod bearing are much narrower. The GT3R uses 930 bearings!

5) and for fun, you boys can guess the application...

The GT2 shares the same internals as the 993TT & 996TT. Which also is a narrow journal rod... (sad) I wish Porsche used the GT3 crank.. Which is basically a 930 crank with the larger 76.4mm stroke.. I will be running the fully counter weighted crank.. My new engine will be capable of turning in excess of 8500 RPM.

I was shocked when I opened up the Pankl rod box, it wasn't a nice wooden box and they didn't line it with velvet like Ruf does... but what I saw was how similar they looked to the 930 rod...
