Too bad the prize for guessing correctly wasn't a pair of your turbos.
I've built my share of small and big block chevys back in my drag racing days. They looked real familiar.

Kevin, some of the web pages I have come across say that using steel is better as titanium stretches as does steel. In fact, there is a preference for using Carillo rods instead of the Pankl. Is there any particular reason why you chose Pankl instead?

On 993TT or 996TTs, what lets go first? Rods, pistons, rings, or bearings?

Rod bolts stretch and pinch the rod bearings, then it heats up and you break the rod.

For the street the Carrillo is the better choice, however the turbo application is going to be softer less harsh on the rods. I have tried over the years to develop fast spooling turbos for our cars, it will be nice to have a rotating assy that will pick up the slack.. I'd like to hit 8K a few times and see how the turbo's pull.. I have spoken to Pankl, and they have told me again that its the rod bolts that will be taking the load.. Another thing, Pankl is the factory choice for the GT3R.. And they are winding those engines to 9+..

Does the elasticity of titanium give you a little more compression at top dead center than the steel rods?

996racer, I really don't need added compression, in fact I have to have pistons made to drop it a few points. You really don't want the rods to stretch..

I know you donr want added compression in a turbo application, i was simply wondering if the elasticity of titanium does this on a motor so equipped.

Kevin: I know several comment have been made that the GT3 engine is good for 9K RPM but I haven't seen any signs anyone is actually running them that high. The in-car telemetry for the Alex Job RSRs at Sebring was showing 8700 as the max RPM but the Porsche Motorsports web site says 8500 RPM is the max for the RSR engine.
