GT2 Front Bumper Conversion

GT2 Front Bumper Conversion
Hello All, I'm asking for the opinion of the 996tt community. I am seriously considering replacing the front bumper and all associated ducting and cooling to a GT2 using all OEM parts. It is quite an expensive proposition at around $9K. I don't track my car and don't plan to in the near future but who knows. However, I like the look of the GT2 front and if I do it, I want to do the full conversion but still keeping the front wheel drive in tact. I have looked at all the aftermarket bumpers and although they may be OK, they seem to require major bodywork to make them perfect and I don't know how well the new ducting will match up. I know there are differing opinions as to how well received modding our cars are to the buying purist in the 996tt community(hello BAT), but I also get the "it's your car, make it the way you want" opinion. My query also refers to the value of doing such a conversion like this when it comes to resale, hence the reason for using all OEM parts. I don't have a GT2 rear spoiler/wing although ironically, my turbo had this when I bought it. I thought it was just a bit too aggressive looking so I sold it and found a complete turbo deck lid painted in the same color so I bought that. I am also considering replacing the wing with a Strosek style wing to complete the package. I do have the OEM GT2 turbo twists with new PS2's that I had powder coated to match the car, seal gray metallic and think it looks great(make it your own right?). Eventually, I may install Ohlins R&T coilovers to lower the car and get rid of that floatyness I feel in the front end. Then I'll have to roll the fenders. It never stops! Maybe I should just sell it. NOT. What say you all? Thanks. Howard

My opinion is only do the GT2 front if you also do the rear GT2 spoiler. Always keep your original parts if your worried about future value. Ruf does have a nice front bumper that is similar to the OEM GT2 bumper.

contact werk996. complete carbon fiber gt2 front bumper that is a perfect match! no guess work or additional body work aside from spray a gel coat on the carbon and letting it cute prior to painting it. Markus (owner of werk996) did my entire car as a full carbon fiber/carbon kevlar body.

I'd probably go the Markus route if I get another. I found an OE at a dealer, but still big $$$. I have a carbon/kevlar now, but it's all one-piece and I get tired of repairing the lower lip every few years. Having a lower lip replaceable would be nice, but even the OE lips are getting pricey for as simple as they are.

Thank you all for the replies. I will look into Marcus's bumper. Seems like a great alternative to OEM.

GT2 bumper looks great. Will it add value to your car? Um, maybe some but definitely not what you put into it, especially if you go OEM. The only two I'd consider are OEM or Ruf, as they're both made of urethane, like the stock OEM bumper. That means they flex some, so you don't have to worry about them cracking like any of the fiberglass of carbon fiber ones. The Ruf bumper also comes with all the brackets, ducts and hardware to install it. If you go with Markus' bumper (last time I contacted him he wasn't willing to ship it, so you either need to have him install it or go to his shop to pick it up), you still need to buy all the OEM ducts etc to make it functional....

My 996TT has a GT2 bumper made by Precision Porsche, installed by the PO. It's fiberglas, and looks great from 10 feet away. The fit is pretty good, and based on the receipts I have, the price was lower than OEM. Looks like $1600.00 several years ago. He paid about the same amount to paint it and install the PPF. When you get underneath it, and if you are OCD like me, you see the finish is 100%, but the fit is about 99% at best. Everything in life is a trade-off, right?
The one thing he didn't do was install all of the ductwork and rotate the radiator. Instead, he handed me the new ducts and coolant lines. So it left me searching for the correct part numbers for the radiator brackets to complete the job. But, I'm sure folks on the forum could assist with that info.
Good luck with your decision-making.

Note that the 996 radiator rubber does not match the GT2 inlet shape.

I have the same front, and I like that I run cooler. My car came like that, lowered and a host of other goodies. I like to go fast and hit corners hard. Still the crazy teenager of many years gone by.

I ran the center radiator not flipped over for a few years and made a center duct by mating the front half of the GT2 duct to the back half of the Turbo duct so all the rubber matched and properly sealed off the center radiator. I still have it if you're interested.
