That's through the Porsche protocol, I believe. According to other threads posted. Here's a quote:

"... unfortunately the PID is not available for the regular OBDII ISO9141-2 protocol (which any generic OBDII reader uses). The PID is only available via Porsche protocol and h/w (e.g., Durametric). It will involve some serious reverse engineering (at least for me) to get the digital oil temp info from the DME. If someone knows how, please do share."

Absolutely correct, it's through the Porsche specific protocol. I wanted to mention that there is another way to read oil temp besides going to a different system. I also built a system that reads oil temp from the factory sensor in parallel with the DME and displays the oil temp on a little digital screen that I attached to the steering column.
Based on this I would say that an oil temp gauge is not needed for any kind of street driving, it's impossible to get the oil over 200F no matter how hard you are hooning the car. Oil temp is probably also not necessary on track, the highest I have ever seen is 230F.
Much more useful on the track is transmission cooling. It's easy to get the transmission oil up to 260-270F.

For those wondering what the headlights look like in a real environment...here are two pics of the low beam and then the high beam. Friend of mine that owns a 996 was thoroughly impressed with the lighting (stock HID bulb and stock high beam bulb) and LED integrated Foglight.

Lowbeam 1

Lowbeam 2

Latest update: Got some more interior red stitching done, just gotta install them. (front console side panels and instrument cluster hood just got done. Will be getting door panels and rear quarters covered then that's it).

I did purchase some 997 puddle lights. I like the way they turned out!

Next Monday, I'll be dropping the car off for it's Ohlins install along with GT3 sways and Tarret drop links. I'll be in Washington state all week, so I won't get it back til the following week.

PCCM Plus update: The Carplay module was defective. Suncoast Porsche wouldn't replace it, so I purchased another from Atlanta Porsche and now my Carplay works, but take note: If you have the Renn wireless charging, it interferes with the wireless carplay module (atleast the one I have).

Porsche recalled those PCCMs off their shelves. I'd contact then to see if you can get it repaired for free or very cheap, then sell it to me for a fair price for letting you know haha.

Yeah, I've been watching the threads about the recalls, etc. I'm not selling it though. (I didn't buy another radio, just the carplay module)

Update!

Dropped the car off for a 3 week vacation at my local indy.....here's the plan:

Ohlins R&T coilovers
Tarrett droplinks and swaybars (GT3 type)
Elephant OE Top Hats
Brake calipers rebuilt/powdercoated and braided lines

Dropping the motor:
All vacuum lines and rad hoses replaced
Hybrid K16s
80# injectors
upgraded Fuel Pump
T-stat, H2O Pump, Ignition Coils, Spark Plugs
Wagner IC's
Protomotive Intake setup
Pinned/welded pipes
Clutch/FW/Slave upgrade

I'll keep this thread updated as it goes and hopefully, at the end of November, I have about 580awhp and reliability.

Do you happen to know if the new Ohlins R&T that you ordered came with the Elephant Racing top hats? IIRC, part of the recall fix was that the new ones were shipping with the Elephant Racing top hats. I'll be going with a similar suspension set up soon as well, looking forward to hearing how yours goes. What are you doing in the rear for adjusting toe after the coilover install?

You know, I didn't open the box to find out if the top hats were in there. I'll ask the shop to check and see.

As for rear toe, we'll see if it needs it or not. If the toe and camber give us issues, I'll have them get some adjustable toe and dog links.

What's the colour code on that? Is that Mystic just in different lighting?

Little update time….Engine has been dropped…..suspension has been removed. Parts exchanged with Todd @ Protomotive. Things are going back together. All rubber hoses, o-rings, etc being replaced. Hopefully won’t be more than a couple more weeks.
