Default New to me 996 Turbo

Hey guys I am super excited to get a new to me 2002 turbo. I am very happy so far. It’s definitely not a garage queen. It has just over 75K miles on it and has a few needs. I just had a chance to take her down to Yellowstone and do some canyon carving while taking in some amazing scenery.

What a good way to break in your new car! Montana has some awesome roads. Head out there in the summertime and enjoy the beartooth pass!

That's perfect mileage and just getting broke in. I'm so happy I don't have any 10-40k mile 996's, I'd be scared to drive them because of the depreciation.

Thanks guys!! I have some plans for the car:

1. Get rid of these awful rims. Im going for all stock so looking for a clean set of turbo twists. If anyone has a lead on a good clean set for a decent price, please let me know.
2. db carbon for a carbon update. The car came as a fairly base car which I’m fine with. I plan to add quite a few carbon accents.
3. I think the motor mounts and trans mount will need changing. Im looking for a semisolid mount. Thinking about getting the RSS but if you have suggestions, please let me know what you guys are running.
4. Exhaust and sport cats. Not sure where to go with this. I have Kline inconel headers and exhaust on my 991.2 turbo s. Had a europipe stage 2 on a previous 996 turbo and that was good but I may want a little louder. But no drone. So I’m basically open with that.
5. Full detail. I will do it myself. Paint is decent but has some chips and so I will need to get some touch up paint. I will do the paint correction myself.
6. Seats. Im not sure what to do with them. Backs are nice but fronts are filthy and the supple leather is not my favorite. I’d be almost willing to get the other style. I have graphite gray. Any suggestions on how to rejuvenate them? I douched the passenger seat with conditioner and left it on. Will see what happens there.

I have a few other projects then I’ll post later. This is a good start I think.

1. Where in Midwest are you? I might be selling my turbo twists, but really do not want to deal with shipping.
2. I did the same recently. Came out great. I'll take some pics later and post.
3. 997 trans mount and OEM RS Engine mounts are pretty popular choice. RSS are too.
4. Many threads on exhausts. Depends who like what. I have Speedtech's 3" Titanium exhaust.
5. Good luck. Detailing is fun on a small car like this.

I’m in Montana. Let me know know about your wheels.

I bought the carbon from db carbon. Went a little crazy. Spent more than my mortgage payment! They said they will have the parts to me by early June so I will have to wait on that. With the rs oem mounts, which model? 964, 997? As far as the transmission mount, is there any difference in model line, eg turbo vs gt3? Thanks.

Congrats on the car! just as a data point can you tell us how much you paid for it as a data point? If you want you can PM me. Im thinking about selling mine which is very similar to yours and getting a 991 or 992 turbo s. Have fun with the car, they are great!

yes. They are a blast ! I ordered new rs motor mounts and transmission mount from suncoast. Also installing a hort shift kit. Car feels pretty tight otherwise. Looking forward to a nice spring project. Will try to post up pictures. Thanks to rl there are some great threads on these diy projects.
