Couple of dumb questions. For those that have welded the coolant pipes; did you disassemble this part??

Looks like there is a gasket and a bolt; I presume so. I've also seen where this is not included in the "nipples" you can buy for replacing. Thoughts?

Looks like this piece un-bolts

right here.

And those coolant "o-ring donuts" that are in several locations (basically two o-rings, with that plastic connector). are you guys replacing the entire bit? the o-rings? what???

Also, on this piece. there's some welding that needs to occur. Are you pulling the scavenge pump prior to??

Scavenge pump on rear;

What turbo upgrade are you doing?

I have K24s that are in good shape. Just having Markski go through them. there was some minor damage on one of the compressor wheels; and I figured since the car was down for clutch and coolant pipes, might as well...

I unbolted the P/S pump bracket from the A/C compressor mount. There's one O-ring in the connection. The lack of curved replacement fittings led me to just weld all the original fittings.
I replaced all the O-rings and the outer sleeve for the 4 aluminum nipples. If the nipples are in good shape no need to replace them.
I removed the scavenge pump and gears, marking the gears first as it's not a hunting tooth arrangement. There's a O-ring under the cover and mine was additionally sealed with Drei-Bond or something similar. I also removed the water pump and thermostat housing.
Under your oil cooler bracket there are two more aluminum nipples, remove both and replace all the O-rings or you will have massive oil leaks.

You posted this picture:

On the oil cooler console as it's sitting in this picture, there are two aluminum nipples. They both come out and have O-rings - on both the engine side and the oil cooler console side. Please replace all 4 of the O-rings or you will need to pull the engine again.

Oh those. Yes. Most definitely. Any o-ring that I can realistically get my hands on is getting replaced. Those have been ordered and should be here this week.

Thank you.

Honestly, I'm not sure what Markski is speccing for me. With his reputation here, I'm trusting his judgement. This is a street car, and I told him I wanted mid-range torque over high end power. He is putting together something for that effect. I've had cars with big turbos and big lag.

ok, I have his hybrid k24s and they are great! Less lag than OEM, but more power. He will not sell you anything you don’t need.

Working with Markski so far has been awesome. It had his exhaust on it - car basically was bought and then discovered it was a full on project. I'm definitely going to be upside down for awhile; but who cares. I wanted it, it's home, and in good hands. Just gonna get it sorted properly and enjoy the heck out of it. Looking forward to having it back together, but it's gonna be a minute.

Probably a couple of minutes, but I'm just guessing.

So... apologies in the delay. Lots of small progress.

Transmission is at CMS, and Roger was great in sending me a bunch of pics. Long story short; it needs....everything...

5th gear is showing wear and metal transfer.
1-3 are getting replaced with cup gears
all synchros
all the case bushings etc.
LSD getting added - no Guards available, so this is going to be a rebuild Porsche unit.

Pictures to follow.

Damage from a bolt or something dropping in the bell housing.

6th, 5th, and reverse.

5th gear here doesn't look great. metal transfer and wear due to lack of lubrication on hard acceleration. we are fixing this with a spray pipe for fluid and an external pump.
