The intake air would be cooler, that's a neat idea.

Intake is a good idea. And still would provide access. I'm surprised more regular cars with DIYers haven't cut that panel out then make something with rivnuts to make access easy. Kind of like an f430.

Back in the day when race cars were 'tall'.

Great pic!

This is funny. I just read the new press release today on the GT4RS and they mention that exact same intake set up that we have been toying with on my car. I'm thinking that we will end up doing this but like they mention, it will be pretty loud inside.

I'm guessing you are well beyond worrying about how loud it is inside the CTSR at this point...

Very true Paul. Straight pipes and hard mounted everything including engine and gearbox, intake noise is not a concern.

Yes, but noise aside, you will (theoretically) get a cooler intake charge, plus, it will absolutely look the business. Do you think it possible that you could positively pressurize the airbox (at speed) for a true ram-air intake, or does the engine eat too much air under load? That would be neat.

The GT4rs looks fairly interesting too...

Yes, that set up is a win win all around for several reasons:

1. Cooler intake charge by relocating the filter and intake from the hot engine bay to the significantly cooler car interior will provide obvious benefits.
2. Shorter more direct air intake path will provide less intake restriction which will provide obvious benefits.
2. Ram air effect will provide positive air pressure to the air box which is always a plus. Currently our airbox has Ram air pressure provided via the decklid upright air intakes so the side window intakes would likely not make any difference in our case.
3. Much easier to drop the engine with this intake since all you would need to do is disconnect the intake tubes from the turbocharger compressors while everything stays connected to the car.

Yes, the 4RS is very interesting and will very fast. It's just not a drivers car anymore since like everything else has been turned into a fancy paddle shifted video game. The era of the manual shifted cars is over but that's technology I guess.

Sad, but unfortunately, very true.

Go for the intake, I think that'll be very trick.

These are pretty trick... SS321 headers with 48mm runners. Stock headers are 37mm so these have a 68% greater cross-sectional area for a substantial drop in back pressure. We see big gains to be had here as the stock headers are very restrictive by comparison.

Is the class you race in essentially an unlimited class? It seems you can do anything you want to your car power/suspension wise. Are there any constraints you need to adhere to besides safety stuff?

I can go unlimited class or detune the engine via a low boost map to slot into a lower class if I can meet the HP/weight ratio. With NASA, that would likely be 400whp at 2750lbs ballpark, or roughly a 50% detune.

Those are beautifully made.

I used to be in the "real men drive stick shifts" camp but wheel to wheel racing a 800HP car is way different than tooling along a country road at 8/10ths. Things happen very fast and I want two hands on the wheel at all times. Then there is the possibility of a money shift and the $40k engine replacement. This happened to me once when my pro co-driver blew it in an enduro.. I still have to manually up and down shift but paddles and a dog box make it much easier.

Now PDK's, THAT'S CHEATING! LOL
