Recognize this is an old thread but was there ever any determination if there were safety concerns with the rest of the coils on the market being paired with the factory top mount or was that an Ohlins specific design issue?

Interesting question, but to my knowledge this was ONLY an Ohlins issue. I'm yet to hear of any other coilover having this issue.

It was only an Ohlins issue.

Ohlins only and solved. Replaced mine and have no issues. In any case, I had no issues before as well, did about 5000km with the original configuration and about 3000km afterwards.

Actually the problem if it even occurred was if the ohlins was used with the OEM front mount. With the elephant racing front mount as it is sold now no issues and in fact it is not supposed to be used with the OEM mount anymore.

As for your question I had someone bring me their car with the front strut broken at the pin. Zero mods on the car except an exhaust.

I think the front strut mount at least the top of it can collect moisture and hold it forever creating rust. This was the case with my own car that is otherwise rust free, the car with the broken 20yr old strut I mentioned and a 3rd car I'm familiar with all 3 had the strut pin severely damaged from rust

Thanks for all of the follow up info. Anyone know if the Ohlins is still in production? Their USA website lists it as out of stock.

I believe it's in production, I would check with a vendor I purchased mine about a year ago and for a customer 6-8months ago

They are definitely available from suppliers. Got a set less than a month ago. I am assuming they are also still in production.
