Does Michigan use vapor recovery on their fueling nozzles?

When using the conventional nozzle fueling position (fueling handle at the bottom relative to the car's fueling opening) do you use the full flow handle position when fueling?

When using the 6 o'clock fill position, I have tried full automatic (locked with the mechanism) flow, full manual flow, and 50% manual flow for the last gallon or so. All of these have led to an inadequate fill volume just under the 4/4 hash mark.

I guess I'll have to go burn through this tank to test it again - we scientists can't be happy with a trial n of 1!

Do you use the same gas station all of the time?

Yes, same gas station.

Preemptive response: No, I don't use the same # pump every time

I've had similar fuel fill issues with other cars in the past, so I know what a PITA it can be, but my 996 Turbo has never had an issue at any gas station. Nozzle in, normal 6 o-clock position, click on the automatic lever, it clicks off when full.

15.5 to tip top after running it dry. Don’t trust the gauge below 1/3, esp. at the track!

Do you recall what the ambient temperature was on that fill up (warm, hot, cold) and the elevation above sea level?

This may not be your problem; but I had a similar issue once and coincidentally my car battery charge was low. Once fully charged; the vent functioned normally and I never had another issue.

again, maybe it was just coincidence for me; but might/might not be your issue.

i never let the car get below 1/2 tank if possible.

i learned long ago never trust our "estimating remaining fuel gauge" - or "abs/psm/drive to workshop" lights lol

So when the low fuel light goes on there's really something like 4-5 gallons of fuel left in the tank? Because when I fill it when the fuel light just pops on I'm able to get 11-12 gallons in the tank... Usually when that light pops on there's ~ 2 gallons left in the tank...

It's a humped tank. So you never really get it all.
