I noticed you're in Madison, WI. Fairly close to the car i'm looking at. Know anyone that could do a PPI or look the car over for any major issues?
Yes. There is Kelly Moss https://www.kellymoss.com/ and Accumoto - https://www.accumoto.com/ both pretty impressive places.

It seems more than just early build cars are affected, though less numbers. Seems like the stack height is incorrect. The $.50 ball bearing is a great mod to do to prevent any future pop outs.

Some put an 8mm ball bearing behind a certain spring to provide more detent force. You can find the info here: https://rennkit.com/rennkit-home/996...als-brochures/
This is a more elaborate widget: https://www.gboxweb.com/detent.html

Well guys, thanks again for all your help

I'll admit that this is the one I was after.

I was willing to go up to 60k. It pushed way past that. Looked like a nice one, but that was too much of a premium for me... back to my 4s now.... lol

I am a month and a half into ownership-I was told the same the same thing, that I shouldnt drive one if I was thinking about the c4s because I wouldnt want the c4s once I did. I drove one TT and they were right. I've onlt put 1700 miles on it but it is unbelievable. What a car, I cant say enough about it. In the name of full disclosure it is my first "sports car" but it is unF'ingbelievable. The only problem is that I live in a police state called NJ, and am not sure how long I will have a driver's license driving this car-it wants to go.

I was monitoring that one too, although I’ve already selected my next purchase and just waiting for a few repairs to be completed. PPI was clean. Leak down and bore scope also clean. Don’t worry, you’ll find yours. These are coming on the market weekly now.

The ball bearing is better than spending the money on the G box detent as it effectively does the same thing for much less. The CMS shift arrester is the better product but requires opening the trans to install.

I agree. My 4s is really nice, but it leaves me wanting a bit more.

Think i'm going to focus on a 03-04. I'm actually of the breed that really likes the silver cars. Should help me out on the search since there are plenty of them!
