I had a PPI done on a '04 996 X50 I'm looking at. It got a clean bill of health and the techntion didn't say anything to be but I noticed in the report the following:
  1. P0300 is random misfires. Happened at idle 1120 RPM, 1068.4 operating hours. Current total hour is 1070.10
  2. P0306 is cylinder 6 misfire. Happened at idle 1120 RPM, 1065.8 operating hours. Current total hour is 1070.10

The CEL light is not on so I'm not really sure what to do with this? Could these be old codes not cleared?

Any help much appreciated as I'm trying to make a decision on this car.

Since I know you will ask about DME report...see my other post here - https://rennlist.com/forums/996-turb...96-tt-x50.html

I just had a P0306 myself, however I was under load and running at speed, in wet conditions.

Am replacing the coils to rectify.

Would it seem odd to have to replace coils and plugs that were done 3 years and 8k miles ago?

Is the car tuned?

How hard do you drive the car in terms of throttle and RPM?

The car does have a tune on it. It is not my car so not totally sure how hard it has been driven… That’s what I’m trying to figure out as part of this prepurchase inspection process.

Then there is definitely a possibility that the plugs need to be changed.

Doesn’t look like old codes - those are both within the last few hours.

9/10 times with these, misfires are indeed, just plugs and/or coils. those are nothing codes that new coils and plugs wouldn't sort out.

guessing. either way. they are not "serious" and should not dissuade you from purchasing the car.

tell them you want a "tune up". which is $400 in parts tops if they diy. or $2500.00 at a dealer. reduce it from the asking price lol.

GL with it

Thanks. I’m totally with you. But it sure he will respond given in his mind this work was “recently” done. A little over 3 years and 7k miles ago...

One might advise you that you need advice.

Pet peeve, sorry...

But to answer your question, sounds like you need plugs and coils.
Fairly cheap but a PITA if you do it yourself.
Fairly expensive if you have a shop do it. Shop would likely charge you $1,200+ so perhaps use it for negotiation.

Sorry to be a bit of a prig, but good luck tracking down your misfire! Again, most likely coils and plugs.
Beru zs178 coils can be found for under $40 each.

yeah, 7k miles is too soon to "need" coils unless there's a cracked one somehow. they crack but usually from very hi temps and hard running. perhaps just plugs. but misfires are ( again ) usually coils and to get at them you're right "there".

still my bet. plugs and/or coils. GL
