Default Advise on Paint work

I'm debating on whether i repaint the front bumper and hood on my car. Its all original black paint and obviously by now it has a few rock chips on it. does will this affect resale value? if you guys were me what would you do? keep it original or paint it and seal with a clear bra?

If it bothers you then have it repainted.

Clear bras? I'm personally not a fan of them.

For the age and mileage, a front end painting I would not hesitate to do.

Default Repaint then Apply Paint Protection Film

If you plan on keeping the car for a long time, then absolutely- have it repainted at a reputable body shop, and apply paint protection film on the impacts areas of the car to protect them, go forward.

As long as the shop you take it to has a strong reputation, they should apply paint in such a fashion that it is seamless with what the factory would have produced when the car was new. This should not affect the resale value of the car if done correctly.

Do the ppf. People that are against it still think they yellow or rip off paint.

They’ve come a very long way since they came out. My car was completely paint corrected and I had ppf applied to the whole car except the rear bumper, and that’s only because I’m doing a center exit exhaust conversion soon. Once that’s complete, I will be doing that with ppf also.

That's not why I don't like it.

wasnt referring to you. Ppf has a stigma amongst a lot of people based on expierences or knowledge that is outdated.

I am thinking of having my 87 911 Carrera repainted and then having paint protection film (PPF), aka "clear bra" applied. On a fresh paint job is there any issues with applying PPF? Does the paint have a period it needs to cure before you can apply PPF?

yes, paint should cure before application

The age old question.

Bumper yes, no problem. Painting bumpers seems to be accepted and expected.

It's possible, especially if you have metallic paint, that you can't just paint the front hood without blending it over into the fender. Otherwise the repaint could be obvious.

A few rock chips I would live with.

the shop/painter will advise best, but general around 30 days I wait before applying any waxes, sealants etc. as the paint is still curing. If you can smell the paint, it's still curing. Keep in mind many production shops can't wait and may apply PPF or the like in as little as a few days.

Are you referring to cars painted with color then clear coat?

Yes. Most, if not all vehicles today, are refinished with color/clear.
