William I've been following this thread and and excited to hear your car is getting nearer day by day. What's the ETA now? Be sure to post photos once you it arrives, can't wait to see it! In regards to the tune, when you're ready give me a call and we can chat about that. I'm quite particular about what tuners I recommend haha.

Okay some pre-arrival pics. ***DISCLAIMER: this is not a pristine clean garage....i work in there and it gets dirty.

1st i have to get this old girl off the lift.... (its no accident the SOUL Performance Competition Exhaust is photo bombing!)

Had to pull the TS to replace the starter (a starter that lasted 23 years)

It's all reassembled, just need to re-install the hood and then rotate the toys round to make room for the newcomer!

So basically, just the text from the service records.

it was cared for pretty good. BUT, i have worked on cars well over 20 years, and a 15 year old car is a 15 year old car. She will need some TLC.

i realize *most* everyone is hung up on paper records. as the car gets older that becomes more and more difficult to maintain ( for some )

but. it's just a "car" and if you're familiar with the car/platform? all you need to do is due diligence and replace what is needed. always begin with a BASELINE. e.g.: a 90K mile service and then some.

Great advice, thanks.

...and no, i am not familiar with the 996 platform. Coming from a mostly BMW background. That said, "due diligence" is the plan.

thanks, and your welcome. bottom line is..when buying any car like this. the "baseline" is really important. so you get your bearings as to what is done vs not. i bought this particular car 9 years ago with nothing more than a 20 minute drive. really. it WAS my 2nd TT and i knew the provenance of the SELLER and a "bit" about the car. e.g. how often it had been flogged over at willow etc so i wasn't particularly concerned. first thing i did? a 90K service and any/all little stuff it needed.

i rigorously maintain my car, now at 160k miles. it rewards me daily. GL with yours.

Did the owner who had the car on consignment at the dealership have the car serviced at that dealership? If so, do you have those service records?

Nice M cars. And your garage looks well organized. Everything in its place. I wish I could say that. You’ve given me incentive for a Spring project.
