Default Durametric alternative that works with iPad or Mac?

Been searching the forum for any feedback, but can’t seem to find any specific info on this.

Basically, as the title says - I’d like to get a Durametric or something similar, but I don’t have a windows device any more. While I could get windows to run as a VM or a second OS, I’d rather not waste my time with this as it would be only for Durametric.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a reader/scanner that works well with our cars and can support a Mac or an iPad?

Depends on what you're trying to do. The cheap generic code readers + phone app can do the basic code reading. Obviously it won't tell you what the Porsche-specific codes mean, nor can you do a DME readout or other Durametric-specific things.

Yeah, I just run Windows as a VM on my macs (using Parallels). Works fine, but I haven't found any other way to get the Porsche specific information (and clear most codes).

Thanks for the replies!

Looking for a range of things - from simple data logging (is car healthy? Type of data) to Porsche specific resetting and code reading.

sounds like I won’t be able to avoid duramatic, but might be able to get a decent logger of the shelf.

You could buy a sub $200 laptop for Durametric, it's annoying, but a lot of people do it.

I run parallels on my mac for Durametric. I also have a cheap original Microsoft Surface Pro that I use (those are like $90 on eBay) when I need alldatadiy and durametric and don't need to worry about getting the keyboard oily.

Honestly though anything newer than 9x7 and Durametric support is pretty marginal. I bought a Launch Diangun IV and use it on everything now. Only thing it doesn't do that Durametric does is reading the over-rev report.

Good info.

I have the cheap Durametric, and all I've really used it for is seeing how many overrevs I add after an AutoX. I'm glad that I have it, but haven't actually gotten as much use out of it as I expected, to be honest. If there's some other cool **** that I should be doing, I'd love to hear about it.

Never owned a durametric so can’t compare. Check out icarsoft II seems like it works fine for resetting lights and code retrieving. Simple and easy no pc needed. Direct obd2 connection.
